TMJ, does anyone else suffer from it?

TMJ

I was told i had TMJ (TemporoMandibular Joint dysfunction) about 6 months ago after suffering from bad pains in my jaw and having my mother force me to go to the doctors. The doctor told me it was nothing to worry about and to rest it and try not to eat toffee, rock or anything too hard. It got better for a couple of months but now it's come back even worse. I'm in absolute agony with my jaw every time i eat, it took me 45minutes to eat a sandwich yesterday because i couldn't open my mouth enough...lol. I went back to the doctor and she's sending me for x-rays to see if I have developed boney bits growing in and around the joint which will need to be removed.

I just wondered if anyone else suffered from this problem because i know its pretty common. If anyone had any similar experiences or think you may be suffereing from it. Theres a website above about it. I didn't think anything like this existed til the doctor told me, it's horrible! Anyone got any helpful advice?

Fluff x

i think i pm'd you a while back coz ive got a bad jaw. its not painful really but sometimes when i eat on my right side it click or locks slightly. my mums friend said she used to get the same because she grinded her teeth at night so i guess i mite be doing that. but if it gets any worse im going to have to go to the doctor/dentist. its just annoying!i dont have any pain in my jaw though so hopefully its not TMJ. theres loads of stuff on the internet about TMJ. you could find that wearing a mouthguard is helpful at night as you wont be putting pressue on your jaw as much. i read that on one website. Google TMJ and hopefully you can get some help. good luck!

I've tried a mouth guard and special pain killer thingy-mah-bobs...i think my body just doesn't like me.
I've been doing quite a bit of research on the web, i was just wondering if anyone else found something that worked rather than go straight for surgery (because i'm a big poof... :p: )
Hope your jaw doesn't get any worse!

did yours start like mine? was it on one side? im wondering whether to go to the doctors just in case or i might just be scaring myself?!

i found this site about alternatives to surgery http://www.painreliefprofessionals.com/TMJpain.htm

its natural methods which some people think are a load of b*****s however it might be useful to look into if you are worried about surgery.
