I briefly considered it... then I realised I didn't want to work in a university or be a middle manager for the rest of my life.

It's an amazing and enchanting degree (I'd imagine) but then again, it ain't very useful.

What did you choose to study instead? What career plans do you have that a Classics graduate cannot go on to?

I did law instead... obviously I casn become a lawyer and have a fairly set career path now. Meanwhile scroll to near the bottom of this page and see what the University of Exeter's Classics graduates are up to now: http://www.services.ex.ac.uk/cas/stats_class.shtml

Hey Bryan!
I have got into St Andrews to read Classics!! Will start in Sept 2006!!
My offer was ABB but they let me in with only ABC - but I did get an A* in Ancient Greek GCSE last summer. I chose Classics mainly cos it was my favourite subject at school - I know crap reason - but I got the best marks in it... Next Sept, I plan to study Latin, Greek, and IR as my third option...
As for my future career plans, hopefully I'll go into the Foreign Office. But it seems so far away that I'm really not sure but by studying Classics, its not really restricting my options in four years time...
What have you decided to do?

:-)

Did they actually mention in the offer letter that they will let you in with only ABC? Where else did you apply to? Did you apply for Classics at your other 5 choices as well? I emailed St. Andrew and they said that they have moved their asking rate up to AAB for Classics. Now, I'll have to work very hard for my AS. By the way, what did you for AS? I am doing Classical Civilisation (AQA), English Lit(OCR), History(OCR) and Economics(OCR).

It's times like this I wish my school had done Latin rather than making me learn it myself...

... all those wasted years doing bloody French.
