The Student Room Group

Had to quit one of my paper rounds

I have got two paper rounds, one is just one day a week which gets me between 20 and 25 quid a week. And I started a new one on Monday just gone. I was enjoying it, believe it or not. And I have to go round and collect the money from the customers, well today me and my brother were walking down one of the roads I deliver too.

And there was a group of lads, and 2 of them walked over to us. They started with the basic *****, ''what the **** are you looking at?'' when we never even looked in their direction, so I ignored them. I never even knocked on the houses to ask for the money, I was so scared. lol So as I was posting the paper in one house, one of the lads said to my brother to ''get out the ****ing street or I'll knife you''

Next minute I was getting told to empty my pockets, so without thinking I told my brother to run, and I just ran as fast as I could. I nearly got ran over twice, but luckily the street was right by our local barbers and we know the man in there because he's a friend of the family.

But there wouldnt have been this problem years ago, the world is so ****ed up. And the horrible thing is these kids must have only been about 13, and I know what you'll be thinking.. a 15 year old scared of a 13 year old. But they could have had anything on them, and my main priority was getting my brother home. Which I did.

So I phoned the paper company and told them I wouldnt be delivering them no more, shame because I was enjoying it. And the road we got threatened in is horrible, windows have been smashed and the residents cant afford a new one. And I knocked at an old womens yesterday who gets terrorised because of them lads, she ordered the local paper because she cant even go to the shop and get it, I just feel so sorry for her because I never even posted her one today.

I feel like going round and giving the lads a taste of their own medicine, but thats how murders beging. I'm just disgusted with today's society. Anyone else had a similar problem?

This is what happens when liberal people think it is a good idea to remove discipline from society. They get rid of corporal punishment in schools, parents can't even discipline their children without fear of criminal proceedings. Kids have all the power. They do what they like and are afraid of nothing anymore. The police have no power to do anything anymore. Nasty thuggish kids know they are not likely to get more than a minimal punishment. That's why they carry on as the please with scant regard for anyone else.
We allowed them to become this way. So all I can say is thank you very much to all those Liberal do gooders who f****d up my country.

Hey don't paint all liberals with that brush.

I'm a liberal but also believe that harsher punishment WOULD solve quite a few of our problems. Your problem is with the carebears of the world.

thats a result of irresponsible parenting... simple, everything starts in the family, i bet their mum and dad doesnt even care that bit to discipline their kids. I mean, its all about teaching a person discipline and respect... RESPECT OTHERS. I mean, why is it that people want to cause other people misery.. its just plainly wrong. This has got to be dealt with!

Yes, so true. I mean really, it's totally clear to everyone that kids who are beaten always become model citizens and not at all dysfunctional. Indeed the only way to stop kids becoming violent is to uses violence against them. That way they understand that violence is unacceptable. It's logical when you think about it.

Yeah, because Manchester's so ****ing perfect isn't it. No, it isn't. Not all the kids in Liverpool are like that, because some of us have parents that know how to bring kids up. So dont use that ******** with me, stuff like this doesnt happen just in Liverpool.

Yes. Bloody liberals like Thatcher and Major, under which these people were most probably brought up.

Hell, no! These are the products of the New Labour generation.

This kind of thing will always happen under any government type, unless there is total equality and no one has a bad upbringing. The only thing I would agree on is that corporal punishment doesn't work, it's a fact that people who have been abused, beaten, or whatever very often do the exact same thing when they are adults. In other words, using corporal punishment is the worst possible way of instilling respect in children.

Why? It's easy money for a teenager.

Few months back. I walked past these two kids (nust of been about 11 years of age) and they turned round and said "what you looking at you ****?"
Ofcourse i just smirked and walked off, i personally found it disgusting but some what hilarious.

I blame the parents, there's noone else to blame because it's the way they have been brought up that turns them into little bastards, and at such a young age as well.

Reply 16

Not always the parents though. You'll find a lot of cocky big mouthed kids have really 'sound' parents.
