Of course it is, especially with the torque of a diesel engine.

However, what you will do to the clutch isn't nice. Why would you want to do it?

Yes it is the torque would work wonders but you will kill your clutch. I know someone (v. rich) who tried it in a masarati and fused the clutch and driver plates together.
Moving off in fifth, thats the challenge. But youll kill your clutch, and its a stupid thing to do anyway really.

What's the point? The car will move very slooooowly! And you can do some serious damage.

Do this; try driving your car with your handbrake on, without touching the steering wheel with your hands and without using the brakes.

Ouch!

No, I certainly wouldn't want to try it!

I got moving from a standstill in 4th in a 1.6 Honda Civic when I was 16. Took a while and I dread to think what I was doing to clutch, but hey; I was young and stupid.

Don't do it. It's pointless.

ive moved off in 5th
it was my parents 2.4L 4x4........ i just had to try it.......just the once.
u need good clutch control

theres nothing special about it and thankfully it dosnt seem to have done any damage to the clutch (a year on)

A nice way to test the clutch. With handbrake up in 5th gear, raise clutch and accelerate a little as if you are about to drive off and it should stall promptly. If clutch slips a little before or instead of stalling then your clutch is likely worn.

Of course. You can start it in third.

If your engine ever dies, but the starter and battery are okay. Stick it in 1st, turn the key and you can kangeroo hop to safety/safer part of the road. Not nice to the starter motor, but better than having someone run into you

I moved off in third once when I was learning. :P Of course it's possible!
Moving off in 5th is easy!! You just need good clutch control as not to fubber it! I was messing around my car with mates in it, and after the 20th or so time of going round this fairly small roundabout at near 20mph, they challenged me to start from a standstill in 5th gear up a hill, took me a couple of attempts but I did it!!

And a mate has an old Series 1 Landrover which is missing the clutch pedal and that is stuck in 3rd (out of 4) gear, and it is quite easy to drive, but then again it does have a huge torque rating which helps.

Riiiiiiiiight. Interesting concept. :p:
I don't think that's legal, how tf do you drive without a clutch? That's like the most important part
