what are they? and why do people get them? prob a really dumb question

If you're talking about commitments within a relationship, problems usually occur because people are scared of those commitments. Scared of e.g.

Being loyal

Being honest

Being supportive

Showing their true feelings

Standing by their partner in times of trouble

Being tolerant

Not being worried by other people's opinions

Not quitting when "the going gets tough".

Could be anything really... Insecurity, wanting more affection, wanting to feel loved etc etc... I went out with a girl for 27 months who cheated on me 4 times... (the last 3 were over the space of a week) and i think it's because she felt tied down by me (although i always stand by the fact she could do whatever she wanted, except intimacy with another guy whilst she was with me).

Different people have different reasons... I for one don't struggle with commitment.

That's so true.
When someone has been really badly hurt, trust is something that is very hard to come by again - if it ever returns.
The easiest thing in the world is for people to say "get over it".
The hardest thing in the world can be doing just that.
