I got rejected from them last year. Not sure why - I got offers from all my other unis, and my predicted grades and P.S. were fine.

It's kinda of strange. Pharmacy is not meant to be that difficult, is it? I know they do not offer interview but i still think that it is not fair to me just to reject me and not tell me why. Cos after all I got decent grades in AS. ><

Yeah. It was very strange. A lot of people here (Bath) who got offers from everywhere and had good grades were rejected from Kings. I suppose all you can do is email and ask why? But I wonder if maybe they just throw out half the applications at random to speed up the selection process.

I hope you mean in the getting offers sense and not the actual course, cause boy are you in for a surprise if you mean the course!

Couldn't agree more. The course is really tough, although 1st year was ok. To get in, I know that KCl is tougher than somewhere like london school of pharmacy. I'm not sure that kings does interviews. When I applied, I got accepted without an interview. So, I'm not sure that interviews are very common for london unis.

pfulham what A levels are u doing? what are your predicted grades and AS grades?? and did you apply to all six pharmacy??
I went to the open day at Kings for pharmacy and the admissions tutor said if you did not have Maths at Alevel or AS you get rejected and also you need at least a B in maths at GCSE.

I don't get predicted grades. I only got 4 A for physics, chemistry, biology and maths in AS.
KCL are interviewing selected candidates for Pharmacy this year - I have a note of the interview date at home, and I'll post it later.

They are making some offers without interview though, I'm not sure what the criteria for interview is...

Lovely. I am very curious about how they choose candidate this year.
You said you have got a note. Are u responsible for taking candidates for a tour around the campus?
The interviews are being done on 22/03/05 I'm told.

No, I'm not doing tours  But I have to try and recruit some people who are conducting the tours, so hopefully it will be very exciting for all you guys who are going to come and visit.

How can they say they reject candidates if they haven't taken Maths at A-level or AS , it is not mentioned in the prospectus as being a required subject if not then im screwed :frown:

I'm sure the chemistry element of Pharmacy has alot of Maths involved, which is why I suppose they need a good AS/A2 in Maths. I'm not much of an expert on this course - pure speculation on my half

I think that in LSOP, we had a few students who had not done maths for A levels, but I think that they did find it a bit tough, but we did go through the stuff needed in lectures.
Yeah - the same goes for Biology which I didn't do at A Level. The universities don't expect everyone to have both so the advanced level biology and maths is covered to a basic extent - but that itself means that it won't be as thorough as if you had done it at school/college.

Most of the maths in pharmacy is for arithmetical calculations for doses, etc. but there is also statistics and calculus from what I remember in some parts of the course.

Yup,there is. Calculus was for the pharmacokinetics part of the course.

I didn't mean to say the course is easy. I am just surprised by the decision made by KCL. (I study all science and maths!) I was guessing they may try to filter out applicants with good grades who wants to change course eg. to medicine once they get into the university. However I am not intending to do that and in fact i am applying for pharmacy for all six choices.

Maybe there was just a really high demand for Kings this year. *Shrugs*
