as per subject title. Anybody happen to be old students or living near this school. What's your opinion and knowledge of this school? They offer a place to my son for coming michaelmas term - no need to undergo entrance exam., is it because we are overseas applicant? Any other suggestions? Please help.

It is a free state school, but with boarding facilities. You would have to pay for your son to stay there.

It is the best school for exam results in Lancashire I think and it is single sex.

Good at sport especially rugby. I have no idea why your son doesnt have to take the exam.

It is divided into two, one for boys one for girls. On results terms, the girls school is the best in Lancashire, but is closely followed by CRGS, which beats the boys school.

It seems like a really good school - my ex bf would definitely recommend it and the teachers seem to be really interested in the individual students. My ex got a really nice letter from the head...is it Mr Jarman? for getting 5 As. If you want to know anymore I can ask him - so if you've got any specific questions just post them and i'll try to find out the answers for you

Thanks for all!!
What I'm concerned is:-
joining at lower six as full boarding student - do the school arrange a wide range of extra-curricular activities for these boarders during the weekend?
do they care for all the students, not only the able ones?Or just let the medium ones work out the academics themselves.
do anyone know family friends who u think would be good guardian in the area? Or somebody's parents is now guardian to this school's student.
Curious about these because an ex-school principal who now is ed. agent/counsellor in uk advise me the difference between independent and state school is the boarding experience. Independent boarding school will provide lots of activities during the weekend with the more boarding students which will include locals, whereas state schools usually will only have those overseas boarders staying during the weekends, may not always have extra-curriculars, thus real uk education life will not be experienced.
Tinykates:- Thxs so much. Could u be so kind as to ask your ex, or ask him to get info. from his overseas schoolmates the feelings they got in this school.

Do internatinal students get less attention from teachers when compared between independent and state schools, because of funding problems? Thus these students from overseas may undergo a period of hardship and difficulties academically?

Your son wont get any less attention because he is foregin. As long as he speaks ebglish to a high standard there shouldnt be a problem.

You are right state boarding schools cannot offer as much as independant ones over the weekend. But you'd be looking at 20 thousand English pounds a year to send your son to a good independant school.
