Not nescesarilly, it depends. I did mine in VB, since Access just ends up winding me up. With a programming language you have the flexibility of doing what you want, not just what the dmbs wants you to do. Anyway I wouldn't be able to write code at home with Access.
Actually, you can do code at home with access coz it has VBA built in somewhere. I even stuck a random bit of VBA in for the Extension bookings thing because Access was throwing up random things at me, telling me that my validation rules wasn't a valid string with 2074 characters and such forth

I don't have Access at home, I would prefer to keep my system free of MS Office, but I have VB.

- Requirements

- Record structure
- Procedure tables

Why do you need help on the regular bookings? Simply enter two months worth manually.
That is a little time consuming :p:

I'm gonna write a procedure which'll be called like:

- attempt open file
- if file doesn't exist then
- - create file
- - open file
- - call regular bookings procedure
- close file

then the regular one will just make the relevant records & add them to the file..

Hey guys I just thought I'd make a post to all those that may be in the same sorta situation I was in a couple of days ago. I recieved minimal help from my course lecturer and had scrapped and restarted my project so many times. Then it hit me that I didnt have much time left to get this done so I needed to do something quick. I spent hours messin about with my database changing things and was getting nowhere fast. Then I had an idea and it really helped me a lot. I wrote up a checklist for myself after analyzing the aqa spec closely. So here it is:

1 - Are booking dates being validated so you can only book at least one
week and not more than 2 months in advance?

2 - Is there a feature to allow for an extension to be made on Friday and
Saturday evenings?

3 - Do you have the costs stored on the database or at least calculated
on a query/form etc.

4 - Have you considered the special villager rate of £10 for an extended
friday / saturday evening, this should override any other costs in these
circumstances.

5 - Are you holding the relevant details about the customer; name, title,
address, telephone.

6 - Have you taken into consideration the regular bookings, either manual
or automatic entry, (Automatic entry would be more suitable but AQA
states this is NOT required)

7 - Can you produce a report with a list of bookings for the next week, to
be displayed in the village hall.

8 - Can you produce bills for the previous month, 2 copies of each, marked
paid if they have been paid for. (Occasional Bookings Only)

9 - Can you show a calculation and result for the amount of money taken
every month?

10 - Can you provide a report showing usage statistics for timeslots, both
regular and occasional bookings.

11 - Have you provided a feature for emailing customers as outlined in the
spec that it could be a possibility in the future.

This really helped me a lot, if you go through each one and tick them when your done it should help some people.

My pseudocode:

Begin
Call procedure MakeBillID(TimeSlotID)
Call procedure WriteBillForm
Write out StringDate to screen
MatchFound = False
Open Diary File
While not EOF (Diary) and MatchFound <> True
Begin
Read next record
If DiaryRec.TimeSlotID = TimeSlotID then
Begin
Write out details to screen
TempHirerID = DiaryRec.HirerID
MatchFound = True
End;
End;
Close Diary File
Open Hirers File
MatchFound = False
While not EOF (Hirers) and MatchFound <> True
Begin
Read next record
If HirersRec.HirerID = TempHirerID then
Begin
MatchFound = True
Write out details to screen
End;
End;
Close Hirers File
End;

I've done it for everything - even if they've not paid yet.

I will recommend using this list to anyone. I've jsut read through it and found I have done ever part of it, apart form an E-Mail function which I am planning to create a mail merge template for.

Also make sure no double bookings can be created, could be added to this list.

Did anyone bother to create a mail merge or anything along those lines?

It says take E-Mail nto consideration when producing the design, so addition of an e-mail address in the table is an oubvious starting pint, but emphasising on thsi by building an auto made invoice.. Is that necessary?

All you need is the email add in the DB table.
