The pill and libido......

Anyone ele found that whilst they've been on the progesterone only pill their sex drive has been all screwed up? I've been on the pill for AGESSSS and my sex drive has never been high all the time I've been on it, but I've found that its kinda getting worse................I'm getting breakthrough bleeding which has also been getting increasingly worse so I am contemplating switching to a different brand anyway (getting worse in duration and stomach pain but actually heaviness of bleeding.......

I've read loads in mags and stuff about the pill contributing to low sex drive but that has only been the combined contraceptive............a friend of mine noticed the same with her combined contraceptive and when she came off it she's been much more driven! But coming off the pill isn't really an option for me because of other things..................

I'm on Noriday at the mo......anyone switched and notcied an improvement?

Well for one I know it's possible, and for two, I know it usually levels out after a while.

POPs are notorious for breakthrough bleeding - how long have you been on it?

I have been on the pill for 4 years..............but my breakthrough bleeding only occured around a 8/9 months ago after I lost some weight....I have PCOS so my consultant said it may be the weight loss that kick started the break through bleeding.............its very light bleeding and intitally was very infrequent, only lasting 2 or 3 days, but currently its around 5/6 days with around 2/3 days rest.............plus I'm now starting to get the stomach cramps...............although its still the same intensity of bleeding

yeah, that's not really so good.

I'd definitely think about changing. My [combined] pill turned on me after about 2.5 years, so if you'd have said to me "i've been on four months" I'd have told you to stick with it..four years? nope.

go see your doctor and explain, because this oughtn't to be happening. either try a different brand, or maybe see about an implant or something :smile:

Thing is that I'm not allowed on the combined pill so I'll have to change to a progesterone only pill (implant doesn't interest me I'm afraid to say.....!) and the likelihood is that I'll have the same troube but its definitely worth a shot

as for the libido thing - seeing as I'll be changing to the same type of pill will it still have the same affect?

It's funny, but providing it's not a sister-pill [which is basically the same but a different name] it could definitely have *really* different results.

I was on Cilest, found that it lowered my sex drive and made me feel constantly sick. Switched to...umm, can't remember what it's called, progesterone only, which has sorted the nausea but I don't really know about the sex-drive. Can't say I've noticed a huge difference either way.

I'm on cilest too, my boobs have grown but I gotta say I have put on weight as well so it's not all good, my sex-drive is about the same.

I can't say that I've put on weight. I love it!

However, I can't run two packs at once, because I get bleeding between....which is annoying....but other than that its great.

Only having a high libido isn't so good when you're not getting any :frown:

haha, same here, though I think when I went on the pill they got bigger...

i used to be on ovranette, until they stopped making it, and then switched to mycrogyonin (can't spell it) and neither of them reduced my sex drive. I could run packets together fine and never had any side affects.

I'm now on the injection, purely because it saves me having to remember to take the pill everyday. No bad side affects so far to this either, on the contary, my periods have stopped, which i consider to be a great thing. Since it lasts 3 months at a time, they should come back should I wish them to, within a reasonably short amount of time...

anyone else on/considering the injection?

They got bigger when I started on the combined pill, but then I switched to the progesterone only cos of migraines and they've stayed big lol the BF isn't complaining though lol

I'm not really considering the injection mainly because of the side effects.........if you have side effects with the pill that are bad you can just stop and change, but you can't do that with the injection which is what
puts me off the most.

I noticed that the pill really suppressed my libido (microgynon) and ive been off of it for almost 3 months now and already ive noticed quite a big improvement!

The pill and libido......
