Revision thread for the C1 Jan paper.

This is taken from the June 11 thread but has all the attachments you will find useful. I will put back up the June paper and model answers in the week of the Jan exam. I have taken them down as they may be used for mock exams.

I will upload the solutions to the actual exam, the day after the exam.

I will upload some past papers and my model answers

I will also post some tips as they occur to me and answer any questions

Good luck in the exam

Always put + c when integrating.

Loads of people forget to put this, so they lose 1 mark, meaning they cannot get full UMS.

Differentiation and Integration of terms involving fractional powers - always take your time, as it is quite easy to make a silly mistake.

Know the rules for Surds and Indices, these are easy marks if you remember the rules.

Sign errors or errors in collecting the terms can lead to loss of accuracy marks.

Always show your working of methods as it can be awarded marks.

Write the formula and then substitute values.

The gradient of the given straight line is y=mx + c.

Look at the number of marks a question has allocated to it. If there are 2 marks, then it most likely involves 2 steps of working to gain the marks.

Factorisation is usually more suitable than the quadratic formula.

It is very easy to make mistakes with fractions and always look to see if you can simplify and factorise expressions any further.

Do all the exam style questions in the book.

Know the formulae and proofs.

hi, just wondering with c1 is the only formula we have to prove the arithemetic sequences one Un=a+(n-1)d
Also in the questions for example differentiation and surds should we always put the answers in simpliest form even if the question doesnt state to do so or is that a risk just in case you get it wrong
Thank you

you need to be able to prove

Sn = 0.5n(2a + (n-1)d)

If it doesn't say to simplify, you do not need to.

Nope - C1 is usually 75/75 raw marks for 100 UMS. Then 74/75 raw is around 99 or 98 UMS if you're unlucky.

trust me you are wrong.

here are the last 4 C1 boundaries

Module ums 100' 90' 80' 70' 60' 50' 40'
C1 Jun-09 71 63 55 47 39 31 23
C1 Jan-10 75 69 63 54 46 38 30
C1 Jun-10 73 66 59 52 45 38 31
C1 Jan-11 75 69 62 53 44 35 27

you could drop 4 marks in June 09 and still get full marks.

Here are the lowest ever

Module ums 100' 90' 80' 70' 60' 50' 40'
M3 Jun-09 60 54 48 42 36 30 25
M4 Jun-03 62 56 50 44 39 34 29
FP3 Jun-09 62 56 50 44 38 32 26
S1 Jan-03 63 57 51 45 39 33 27
M4 Jun-04 63 57 51 45 39 33 27
M1 Jan-09 63 56 49 42 35 28 21
S1 Jan-02 64 58 52 46 40 35 30
M2 Jan-04 64 57 50 43 37 31 25

I've finished all the past papers from 2008 onwards so what do you think is the next best revision? Done some of the old ones, the different style doesn't bother me too much but teacher said to just ignore them. Any other advice?
