I am nervous and shy about joining a rugby club

Hi all well i have played for school but i have to retake my AS Level year and will be going to a city college which does not do sport. As i have adored rugby like a religion for most of my life i need to keep it up. I have a club in mind but they peform as a really high level and i am nervous. Any advice?

Just go and give it your best. I was in a similar situation several years ago. I turned up, played my best and within two months I was at the stag do of one of the blokes in the club!
Work hard, show enthusiasm and give 100% and the coaches and players will be happy. Be personable and don't act like a dick and you'll get on with people. It's always good form to email the coach or call him and ask if it is alright to train with them beforehand.

If they're a big club they will have 2nd/3rd teams that you can fit in with before you're ready to step up. Or they will have affiliated clubs in lower divisions.

His advice is sound, just give everything you can.

This is a good thing as they will have a development squad and maybe casual teams meaning you will be encouraged to improve. Just go for it...I have never been to an unfriendly Rugby club except in Gloucester where they seem to be concentrated!

I was in Bristol, I'm now a trainee Naval Officer. I played a couple of games for Clifton. If you are looking to play rugby in Brsitol then Clifton is a really good bet. What standard do you play/ are you looking to play? They have four teams. The top two are from the same squad but have to travel a lot. The other two are more casual and play more locally but are still a good standard. Where in Bristol are you living?

For less travel and more fun there are two really good clubs much nearer to you. They are Old Bristolians ( accross the bridge) and Old Colstonians (Bell Hill). they both play high standards of rugby and play with south Gloucs.
