How many people here have psoriasis or similar skin condition?

I got a couple of PM's about it and was just wondering  how do you feel you are coping and what medication are you using or are you using herbal remedies?

at the moment I personally have been using elocon and protopic and alphosyl shampoo but when its bad I get PUVA treatment in the hospital - and its quite flared at the moment because of stress but other than that its well behaved too

and if you don't want to reply just remember you can always post as an anonymous user  xoxo

its not too bad, depends on the severity of the condition. i had scalp psoriasis and it made my hair fall out, but luckily its grown back but the psoriasis is slowly creeping back xoxo

I had really bad exczema (spp??)up until i was about 13 or so, it was so bad the creases behind my ears and my eyelids wud crack &bleed (not nice.) Also had some psoriasis (sp??) before (crappy genes)I would rly recommnd Bee Propolis capsules, i started taking them and my exczcz...(!) went completely! you can buy them in vitamin cataloguesor in health food shops. for my psoriasis i used Polytar shampoo. Better to go natural than resort to steroid creams, drugs etc. unless you can help it. Good luck, x

No offence but thats totally irrelevant to the thread title...I'm trying to have a serious thread about something like this because psoriasis doesn't just cause physical stress but also it affects your mental position as well such as your emotions and how you react to people staring if it is quite noticable, sex flushes and a rash after getting sweaty is a heat rash thats all xoxo

If it's not too off topic I used to have bad urticaria, which made my skin all red, itchy, inflamed and puffy. One day I was on the bus and it was really bad and although the bus was full no one would sit next to me :frown:

no Juno its not off topic, I have never heard of it  but it sounds related enough to the thread title, after all psoriasis, ezcema and dermatitis all have characteristics in whicn you described, just not the puffiness  xoxo

Yeah, this summer I lived like a nomad, and although I didn't feel stressed I reckon my body was stressed because of all the moving I'd done. I packed my whole life up and moved to opposite sides of the country TWICE in the space of 3 months. So my psorasis was REALLY bad on my scalp and my hair kinda thinned out especially at the front where I swear it was almost going bald.

I use alphosyl, which works well. I used to have it worse when I was younger, had it all down my legs. Now its on my ears and scalp, but it's not a major problem. I think more people have it than you think.

I have atopic eczema (pretty much like eczema I think except I have a lot of allergies too) It used to be really bad on my face, which just wasn't fun :frown: It's ok at the minute though *touches wood* but flares up when I don't take care of myself.

I use elecon as well, am slightly concerned about the skin thinning thing though :frown: Does anyone have any advice about protopic creams? Or about herbal remedies for that matter

hello!

I've suffered with phorasis since i was about five years old...so have tried just about every cream/lotion available!
My particular case is related to stress, which is ironic really cos you get stressed, then get phoraisis, which in turn makes you more stressed  it's also connected with throat infections, so basicly if i get run down it will flare up! Kind of like my bodies way of telling me to calm down and chill i suppose!

luckly it's calmed down a lot over the years! but i still get flare ups on my arms, legs and tummy! the best thing i can recommend is the sun...although saying that i used to have UV treatment at the hospital and because of the health issues (which are quite right!) it takes forever for it to actually go away cos i used to start off on the sunbed for just one minute!! I've now taken to just going on holidays  or going on sunbeds privately.
As for the creams...well i hate them! They really are awful, but the best i can recommend is Alphosyl cream and shampoo...although it really does stink! Also Polytar shampoo...again it stinks, but works! especially if u put it on and sleep in it (with a shower cap on ) ...just make sure you wash your bed stuff asap!!

It's a pain having phorasis, but it's not actually painful (for me anyway) just annoying, especially when wearing clothes etc cute little tops dont really go with it! but just remember not to get stressed about it

Yeah I used to have very bad eczema when I was young but its got better, I still have it in some places occasionally so I use betnovate cream at the moment.

When I go to the dermatology department in hospital they have this big machine that people stand in which is used to treat psoriasis so its pretty serious I feel sorry for people that have it bad.

Ive had psoriasis for as long as I can remember. Got it from my dad who still has it (its hereditory). Got it on knees, elbows, upper arms, scalp and over stomach area. Although I know I should use a special cream I find they tend to make the area feel tight and occaisionally (sp?) sting, so I use a normal moisturising cream such as nivea or dove.....but only when I remember, I really should use it more. To be honest, I find the sun is the best cure.My skin is SO much better when im on holiday somewhere nice and sunny. Tried the UV sunbed once....but i think i must have been allergic to the light or something because I got REALLY itchy the day after, which didnt stop for days.

I try not to think about it too much, as I find it will only get to you more if you do. If you don't think about it and mention, most other people wont notice it. Just wear what you want and attempt to forget about it.
it randomly flared up on my scalp a few months ago- i put it down to stress and being run-down.
my doc prescribed betnovate scalp application and i only need to use it once a week and my scalp is no longer flaky whatsoever but it still is a bit itchy sometimes. it really worked a treat and it is so so easy to apply and isn't greasy at all.
i also use alphosyl shampoo occasionally but i hate the smell.
i'm just praying it doesn't come back ferociously cos it's so so horrible and makes u feel gross.
i'm just going to try and stay chilled out and healthy!!

if you are worried about skin thnning use a vitamin dervivitive such as Dovonex they don't have that side effect to my knowledge  xoxo
Try pure african shea butter.
