Is Pharmacy boring?

I have an offer for pharmacy but just afraid that I will think the job is too boring. Please give me your honest opinion to see if it will help me decide.

How could it possibly be with access to all those cool drugs
The course doesn't seem boring, and there's a diverse range of jobs, all in different fields, ranging from Industrial, to academic, so I don't think it'll get boring

Depends on what you enjoy, what you're like and what kind of environment you end up in.

I always found pharmacy to be a strange field since those interested in chemistry and chemical interactions in the body do it but the job doesn't exactly require much of the knowledge it forces you to learn.

Pharmacology, on the other hand...

But theres also hospital pharmarcy too, obviously if you ask anyone they will tell you that because that's what springs to mind when you mention pharmacist, but as the previous poster mentioned there are other jobs if you don't want to do community pharmacy.

That is not true... The dispensers can do the counting
I'm joking.

It depends what field of pharmacy you want to go into. As the poster above said there are loads of different opportunities. Pharmacy is constantly changing, and even if you do decide to stick with community pharmacy, there's loads of other services that pharmacists now provide.

I would suggest you do more research into this.
My sister is a Pharmacist and says it's absolutely boring especially when she's on warfarin clinic. She has to check like 60 patients and do a warfarin round in a morning which she says is very boring- however that's her own opinion. Just because one person claims that something is boring does not necessarily mean that you will find it the same

Read through this to give yourself some ideas about what you can do.

This is totally irrelevant but i read your sig, Leeds are totally the worst for medicine offers!

What does Pharmacology entail? I know that I def would not want to go into research, it would be community or hospital pharmacy.
Depends what you'd like to do. I don't think its boring personally, even if you're working in community but some areas and specialisms may get a little same-y and boring. Depends on personal preferences really.

Have you had any work experience in pharmacy? I'm concerned that you've not had any and I'd strongly recommend that you do if you haven't.

Pharmacology is how drugs interact with the body and with each other in some cases.

I didn't even get a bloody acknowledgement, straight rejection, not even the generic 'rejects' email. Bristol was quite annoying too, I had to wait till April for a rejection, why not reject me early and put me out of my misery

Did Leeds say why they rejected you?, you don't want to go to Bristol anyway it's pretty weird! But aww that sucks, makes you so not motivated :frown:

No, my friend got a dentistry rejection and had to post a letter to ask them why, still hasn't heard anything, i feel its not worth a postage stamp to ask for feedback, especially since i wasn't offered an interview, tbh, I wanted to stay in london, but queen mary and kings are ukcat whores and imperial the same with the BMAT, I don't have varying subjects to make myself a viable candidate for ucl. In a way I'm glad I'm doing pharmacy, I don't think I'd be able to handle the stress of medical school if i failed during admissions. So are you a medicine applicant?

Everyone that doesn't understand what a pharmacist does that is

Since I've been qualified I have never been stuck behind a counter counting tablets, I prefer to be on the wards talking to the patients, doctors, nurses etc and actually using what I learnt in my degree

So don't become a pharmacist? If you're interested in just the pharmacology, then take Pharmacology. But you don't have to be a pharmacist if you take Pharmacy. You can still go into research and do any generic graduate job unrelated to your degree.

Its a great job to fall back onto though.

Depends on your interest really. If your interested in pure science, I would advice you to apply for something else.
It isn't the most exciting job, but stability of the job is good and you can get a reasonable salary from it. You're serving the public as a healthcare professional and the roles of the pharmacist is expanding year by year.

Also, with a basic pharmacy degree you don't just have to go into community pharmacy, you can become a teacher practitioner part time helping students pass their dispensing exams!, you can go into industry helping in the development of new drugs (some people find this appealing, I don't personally find it all that exciting), you can go into hospital which offers the opportunity for specialisation.

There is a lot more flexibility in Pharmacy than people think there is but the stereotypical view of the job puts them off to find out more.

Pharmacology is a science degree and you won't be able to become a pharmacist with just a pharmacology degree.

The only degree related job you would get would be in a research lab, maybe a hospital lab. And these are very hard to come by as there's a lot of competition I would imagine for research jobs.
