AS Chemistry Questions - Melting Points Watch

and name compound B :

I'm confused how to know which one has the lowest melting point, it'd be the one with the least electrons so I'd think it would be Li, but answer is O ?

For the compound B, answer is 2,3 di-bromobutane, but the longest chain is only 3 carbons ? so it should be propane ?

Finally how do you know the charges of a group ? e.g how can you know phosphate is -3 ?

It's oxygen, it is the only gas there, you're over complicating it.

The longest chain is 4, CH3-C-C-CH3

Thanks.

So if there is a alkyl group , above the horizontal carbon chain, it is included as part of the chain ?

Yes, these diagrams are only for simple explanation of the question, in reality the molecule would be 3D and it would be far easier to see the chain.
