Chlorine + Water Watch

when chlorine reacts with water the following solution occurs:

Cl2 + H2O --> HClO + HCl

BUT

I also saw that this happens

Cl2 + H2O --> HClO + O2

when would the latter occur

Never, as you've lost an H, a Cl, and plucked an O out of nowhere
