Aromatic alcohol has the OH group attached to a benzene ring. This results in different reactivity/acidity etc...

What exactly is a benzene ring?

Aliphatic means a straight carbon chain, so something like Ethanol is an aliphatic alcohol.

Aromatic on the hand are rings with an alcohol on, i.e. Phenol (C6H5OH)

So rule of thumb: Straight aliphatic, non-straight aromatic.

Is it still aliphatic if there is a double bond in the chain?

If it's a chain not a ring, yes.

Aliphatic alcohol = non aromatic (it can be straight chain or cyclic)
Aromatic alcohol = aromatic (has to be cyclic, planar and fully conjugated - like phenol)

Aliphatic is just a general term for compounds that are not aromatic.

basically, aromatic - circle thingy in middle (benzene ring, c6 h6)

and aliphatic is everything else e.g. propanol, ethanol, cyclohexane
