Just gotten my lease to sign for the new renting of a flat and I've just noticed that it's only for 6 months whereas I was under the impression that it would be for a year. I've done a quick bit of research on what a short assured tenancy agreement is and see that it automatically renews unless either party gives written agreement otherwise. The letting agency deal mostly with students.

Is it likely that this agreement will just renew or will I have to go flat hunting again in 6 months time?

your landlord can serve notice on the day the tenancy starts. Then it's 6 months only.
