Hello,
I am a big Fan of Lupe Fiasco and think he is a lyrical genius but most people I talk to are like no way his songs are boring, theres no beat or chorus and I say that its not about the hook for a song to be good, his genius lays in his lyrics, all the similes, metaphors and the Double entendres but no one agrees so what do you guys think?
oh if you don't know who he is have a listen to these songs:

I Gotcha
Kick push
Kick Push II
Paris, Tokyo
Superstar
The Cool
and Dumb it Down

PS. I was thinking of starting a Lupe Fiasco society but ill see how many fans there are on STR.

Not a massive fan, but I love Paris, Tokyo and Dumb it Down. You haven't mentioned any songs of his new album "Lasers", maybe you should give it a listen also?

Hahahaha I pre ordered it but was really disappointed especially with all the auto tuning and featuring of other artists on every song, that album was released just to get Atlantic records off his back, not his best work so I thought not to mention it as some songs like I'm Beamin' and "All Black Everything" I really like but there are songs like "I don't want to care any more" which I really don't like, its like a box of chocolates some you like some you dont.
I am looking forward to Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, now that should be a great album

LASERS is awesome!!!!

But tbh, he's not that underrated. Yes he's better than most of your mainstream rappers. But if anything he's not 'underground' anymore and isn't exactly underrated.

But he's still awesome, and I'm a fan.
There are other lyrical genius' (Akala if I may say so) now he's what you call underrated. But then again he's just a lyrical genius, he's not made for mainstream, as his music kind of fails.

After multiple listens, I found Lasers to be disappointing compared to his previous two albums but still a decent album overall.

I cant doubt Lupe's lyrical talent, he just needs to work with Soundtrakk (in house producer who was completely absent from Lasers) and Matthew Santos.

My favourite Lupe Songs.

The Instrumental
Streets on Fire
HipHop Saved My Life
American Terrorist
The Emporer's Soundtrack
Put You on Game (such a dark chilling track)

Those are only a few that popped into my head, there are too many to name, anyway those songs are on albums, his really lyrical songs are on his mix tapes, they are too dangerous to the mind to be released on his albums. These are a few of the songs from various mix tapes:
.........Listen at own risk.........
Penz and the Needlz
Twilight zone
Lupe the Killer
Mean and Vicious

VERY under-rated....the whole of L.A.S.E.R.S is the type of album that could wake up the world...but people would rather listen to bull****...

I don't think he's underrated anymore. He was voted the second greatest rapper under 30 by VIBE after all. He's just not very commercial so may not sell as many records as the likes of Drake and Lil Wayne, though L.A.S.E.R.S was an attempt to commercialise his work and that clearly didn't have the same impact as his last two albums.

Have a listen to 'Switch (The Science Project)' to see just how versatile his flow is.

Words I Never Said has one of the worst beats i have ever heard. No joke.

His first album was quality and his second one of the best albums of its kind in that decade. Streets on Fire, Dumb It Down (the irony is splendid but sad seeing his new disastrous album, don't blame Lupe fully for this) and Little Weapon are incredible. It's almost a shame he came out of "retirement" to do this album, because it has tarnished his previous work.

I think he's fantastic!
Mainly his original stuff, not so big on the latest album but it's still really good.
He's fairly big in America, just not really very well heard of over here.
