Does anyone else feel they chose the wrong university? Watch

This has most likely already been done, but I thought I'd just write down some thoughts...

I'm finishing my 3rd year at uni and about to go into my 4th and final year. The story so far.....I went to a prestigious all girls school and was enrolled at a uni where many of my contemporaries and the like would have been. I then swapped to a different uni early on to avoid "that scene" as I found a lot of people stuck up etc and just wanted a fresh start where I didn't know anyone. Note: there were also other reasons for this swap in uni.

So the issue! Here I am three years on and I regret that decision big time! I know people say regret is pointless, which it kinda is, but I think by this error of judgement, I ended up swapping to a uni where most really aren't my type of people and subsequently it has been a stuggle to create a social circle for myself. The uni has a poor selection of societies and so i have not become involved in the whole uni "spirit". Don't get me wrong there are a select few whom I get on with and really like, but my social life uni wise in general sucks lol!

Anyone else recognise this or had similar issues relating to uni? Anyone have any words of wisdom on the matter?

Exactly the same and now feeling full of regret. But best not to think about it and just continue to focus on your studies since that's the main reason you're at university anyway. Smile!

I felt like that a bit at some points during my first year but in the second year it got much better. Now I'm finishing my 2nd year and I'm happy I chose this uni.

My uni life has gone similarly, I joined a few societies at the start and made a good circle of friends at one, who were all final year students and have now all left! I also have a large circle of friends who are all local, which has the disadvantage that they all work and we rarely get the time to socialise. So now I'm in my second year, and I have no friends on my course and the friends I do have are either far away, or always busy or skint. Great :/

Eh, I may very well be wrong here, but it isn't it the case that you can join UoE societies (of which I guess there is more chance of there being something that takes your fancy)?

Not really, I genuinely feel I'd have more fun at somewhere like Bristol or UCL. At the moment sport and going out has taken priority and it's not looking good.

I don't understand why you're hating the chance to get a good education because you can't find friends. Your social life sucks? Wow. And I thought, sense you are obviously smart enough to go to a university, that you'd know there are more important things than friends at this point.

Get over yourself and focus on your studies. I felt this way too but that was my first semester when I was 18 and still very young/ignorant. Having finished my first year here, I have learned a hell of a lot, a lot more than I would have learned if I went to any other college.

I don't really regret my choice.

For my post-grad studies, I'll be staying as far away from London as I can, though!

so, if not at university, when exactly do friends become 'important'? after retirement perhaps?

No, I'm just assuming that you would value your education and your correlating mindset to why you are there; I don't understand why you don't like a place of learning or would want to change because you don't have friends.

I assumed that since you're in college, you would understand the importance of your education and little things like not having friends wouldn't deter you from your goal. Of course you never said it did but wanting to switch schools because you don't have friends now? I just don't quite understand.

Same here! I hate my uni too! I am in my 1st year though but there is no other university in my country that does that course. I can't even move abroad anymore....they are all asking me to do a foundation course but I feel that I might be too old for that!

PS - Plus the people over here and the quality of education is just horrible. Nothing to do in the uni either! Most of the girls are never ready to hang out....they are too busy talking behind each other's back! Makes me sick
