Plotting/scaling Log Graph HELP plz.. Watch

Right... just need some advice. Basically, say I have a range of values from 700 to maybe 1,200 what is the ideal scal to use (x axis).

i have scaled it initially in powers of 10 i.e. 10^2, 10^3 etc., however upon plotting the data the spread is too narrow. I want to change the scale so that the data is spread more accuratley, but for the life of me cannot figure the way to scale it. can you help?
