First time wearing stockings - any advice?

I'm wearing stockings for the first time today. It took me quite a while to put them on, and I find that the belt keeps being pulled down, even when I've done the clasp to the tightest. Also, I had to do the clips before I put the stockings on, because it was virtually impossible to do so with them on. Do you have any advice on how they can be worn more easily and comfortably?

It's been quite some time since I've worn them so I'm not sure I can help you there.

However...stockings...look fantastic :hubba:

They're not comfortable to wear - that's why tights were invented.

Don't wear them for long periods because the majority of women don't.

That's why they're now seen as "bedroom lingerie"

i find the belt annoying, get hold-ups so you dont need to worry about the fiddly bits. M&S actually have a good range

Perhaps you’ve got the straps too tight? Start by having the straps as long as they’ll go. Then put the stockings on and work them up as high as they’ll comfortably go, without overstretching them. Attach the clips to the stockings, then adjust the length of the straps so that they keep the stockings there without excessive pulling on the straps. It helps too to have the back straps about an inch longer than the front ones, that stops too much strain when you sit down. Also make sure you’ve got the suspenders inside your knickers it’ll be so much easier when going to the loo!

If the belt still keeps being pulled down then maybe you need longer stockings ‘sized’ ones are often better than the ‘one size fits all’ ones!

They can feel a bit fiddly at first, but you soon get used to doing them up, when I wore them at school I was almost as quick putting them on after PE as those in tights! Don’t give up, you’ll find they’re really comfortable better than tights, more reliable than hold-ups...

yeah theyre sooo awkward - ive found they ladder easily aswell (though apparently putting them in the freezer for a couple of days helps....no idea how but it works!)
just try adjusting them and walking round, sitting down etc so that you can decide when theyre comfy enough  they make you feel so good though, especially when your boyfriend catches a glimpse....

The easiest way would be to ask an older relative to show you how best to put them on but this is what I do:

Put the suspender belt on first and then one stocking doing the front strap up first. The back ones can be a bit more tricky but I find the easiest way is to put one hand between my legs and the other reaching around the side.

Once you've done them up, you may need to adjust the length of the straps to make them comfortable. Make sure the belt sits comfortably on your hips.

Also, don't make the straps too tight though as they could pop open when you sit down or stretch.

You'll soon find it easy to do - I can put mine on now almost as fast as I could put tights on when I used to wear them.

Remember to either put your knickers on after you've put the belt on or pull the straps of the belt underneath your knickers to make sure you can get to the toilet without too much fuss!!

If you're intending to wear stockings for prolong periods, like for school, uni, work etc, you should invest in a good suspender belt. One with metal clasps and clips is really important as these will keep the length of the straps constant and also keep the stockings attached and avoid cringy moments!!

Where's the suspender belt from that you've got?

The right size stockings will make the world of difference when you've got them on.

My everyday stockings are from M&S and they're run resistant so if you get a little hole in them, they won't ladder. Never heard of the freezer thing but I might try it with some of my more expensive nylons.

It's a shame that people hold this view. I wear mine for working, shopping and pretty much any everyday tasks. If you get a good suspender belt you'd be surprised at how comfy they can actually be. Quite a few of my friends and one of my sisters felt like this until they got decent suspender belts and although none of them are everyday wearers, they do wear them more often since "upgrading" from the belts designed for bedroom wear.

Sorry, I pressed the neg button by mistake! I'll rep you later.

I thought stockings are quite commonly worn as daily wear, or at least that's the impression I've got from this forum.

Girls:

According to my wife, the most common problem is using suspender belts that are meant for show (ie sex or showing off) rather than the ones meant as practical items - and these are too flimsy to support the things all day. She bought all her actual stuff off a specialist called "stockings hq" which is apparently really cheap and there is a forum there with apparently a gazillion threads on how to wear the things. The proper ones do make women look a bit 1940s, though.

Boys:

Difficult as it might be to believe, it's only hot for the first few months - then, like everything else it becomes meh.

I got them from Ann Summers, but they're meant to be "practical" stockings.

They're worn more commonly than you might think - there are quite a few girls on this forum who DO wear stockings regularly!

I get my 'everyday' stockings from BHS - £4.50 for 3-packs of 15-denier ones.

For suspender belts try M&S - some good ones are http://www.marksandspencer.com/Marks-and-Spencer-Sheer-Suspender/dp/B002CNLJ8U?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_6&nodeId=55526031&sr=1-6&qid=1304701530&pf_rd_r=0PYT0AVQWWEBNV1FD6EG&pf_rd_m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=55526031&pf_rd_p=215570647&pf_rd_s=related-items-3

They only come in black which is fine by me, though I guess not everyone likes black underwear...

Advice on how to wear them?
Am I honestly the only person here finding this ridiculous. It's like how to wear a top? There's no pain and no comfort issues- unless you're fairly fat and have a smaller than your stomach suspender. (In this case, buy suspender belt that is your own size -.- )
I guess this is TSR afterall..
I have had cheap suspenders from Primark and more expensive ones from Debenhams. They have never caused me discomfort or any other wearing issues. :s-smilie: You simple get the stockings, clip them onto the suspender straps. Put the stockings as normal and do up your suspender belt. Done. Simple. The only issue I can see is if you do the straps loosely so the stockings slide down, in this case make sure the suspender straps are tighter. In theory the stockings you wear should fit your thighs perfectly, without the suspender belt- but they may slide down after a few minutes of walking, but they should hold themselves up when they're at the right height. The suspender belt only makes sure they won't fall down after walking, dancing and what not, prividing extra security. There are some stockings without the adhesive lining, but instead elastic band so they never slip off themselves.
I'm actually confused about the discomfort people mentioned. Where is it coming from? o.O, it's just like wearing tights but you have some flesh thigh area on the show.

Nooo, I love wearing them too.
Was slightly awkward the first time I wore them because I overcompensated for my massive thighs and got stockings that were too large, and they started falling down :colondollar: but other than that, I've had no problems. They're more comfortable too.

That being said, I have awful trouble with hold-ups, because they just DON'T stay up! Once you've washed them once or twice, they start falling down all the time.

Are you confusing stockings and hold-ups? Hold-ups should "hold up" by themselves - but too often don't, as others have said! :frown: I guess a suspender belt might give some extra security then. Ordinary stockings on the other hand don't have any elastic or adhesive at the top, so then you do need the suspender belt to keep them up - in fact it's essential!

That could be a bit problematic for everyday wear. The Ann Summers suspender belts have plastic clips and clasps so you might find that they don't keep your stockings in place if you're quite active and there's always the risk of the clasps popping causing stockings to fall down leaving :colondollar::colondollar::colondollar:

If you are wearing them when you're active, I'd recommend a good belt from somewhere like stockingshq or stockingsdirect which have loads of functional belts many of them with more than 4 straps for added security.

I know hold up-s don't really hold themselves up, but if you're wearing the right size, they should stay on for like 5 minutes without you moving much. This indicates they're a good size and then can be worn with a suspender belt to add that extra security so they don't slip off. (If they can't even hold themselves up for a few minutes at all then it's a wrong size, and you might have to pull them way up where your thighs are at their fullest)

Not sure what kind of stockings you girls are wearing, because generaly my stockings have some kind of elasticated strip, or stretchy fabric material so they hold themselves up (I still wear a suspender belt sometimes with them because I like the look of the little straps)
Normal stockings that are like socks should also hold themselves up because they're made a bit smaller in the thigh area so when you put them on, they cling onto your flesh

The stockings we're wearing are like these - http://www.bhs.co.uk/mall/productpage.cfm/bhsstore/300074/220140 - they're plain with no elastic or anything at the top, and no 'gripping' feeling around your thighs. They need the suspender belt to keep them up, else they'll quickly be heading southwards!

I suspect you're referring to ones like this - http://www.bhs.co.uk/mall/productpage.cfm/bhsstore/300075/220140 which are hold-ups with the elasticated bit at the top... should in theory stay up without a suspender belt as you say (but in my experience don't!), though I suppose you can wear a suspender belt too. But the top is rather thicker, so not so easy to attach the clips...
