Can I cancel my student finance after application?

Hi all.

I have an offer from York (firm) and Sheffield (ins) to study History next year, as a normal, three year, undergrad course.

However, I'm strongly considering reapplying for Law next year. I'll probably make my final decision at results day - if I get a couple of A*s, I'll probs reapply.

If I apply for finance now, can I cancel it later on? Is there a deadline by which I would have to cancel? And would it cost anything to apply then cancel?

It costs nothing to cancel an application. You just have to fill out a change of circumstance form and send it to them in the post. However if you do register on your course they class however little time you were at the university as a year of study. This then means you will be subject to the +1 rule and that will affected how much money they will lend you. Normally it means they wont pay your tuition fee loan for 1 year of your course. Considering the trebling of fees that will come in next year why not call York and ask whether or not they will allow you to change to the law course there? Might end up saving yourself £18K in extra fees.

Cheers, I didn't know that it would count as a year. If I waited and applied for finance in, say August, would I still get it eventually? My parents would probs lend me the money if I paid it back with my loan, and that way I would not waste a year's finance if I decide to cancel.

I'm contemplating changing to Law at York, but with Law career prospects can be very dependent on where you go to uni, if you go via a Law degree. It's much more feasible to get sponsorship and a job if you come from a top Law uni, like UCL/Oxbridge/Nottingham/Warwick or whatever than if you come from a relatively new course like York's. I would rather go to one of those places if I'm changing from History, but I am considering asking York to change my course; the worry is that I don't get in anywhere next year (which is hopefully unlikely given grades etc., but you never know).

hi I call at the student finance to cancel my application but the told me that I have to wait 1 month ,today I call them again and they told me to fil something but I don t know from whwre to download that application for cancelling my pld application pls help me

Phone them and tell them you want to cancel your student finance application. They will do it straight away on the phone, but it can take a while to delete on the system.

Also, please post a new thread in future, instead of resurrecting old threads.

Still awaiting to hear if my daughter has work placement in September. If not she will be going on to third year of my degree. She is therefore unsure whether to apply for student finance before deadline. PLEASE ADVISE.. THANKYOU.
