Wearing contact lenses for more than 1 month

I've been wearing my pair of monthly contact lenses for over a month (36 days). I will continue doing this for another three weeks, is it safe to do so?
Or am I damaging my eyes?

I rang up specsavers earlier and they told me I should only wear them for 31 days and not any more.

Has anyone ever done this and wore the soft monthly contact lenses for a long time?

Dont do it. Go get a new pair otherwise you could end up seriously damaging your eyes.
Nah my dad's an optom and he's says it's generally ok if you're being clean with them etc. I do it all the time! Of course specsavers would say that- they want you to buy more lenses!
I cant, so shud I stop?

It hasnt done anything to me yet, they are still perfectly comfortable.

I always do that...i always 4get to replace my lenses.
1 time i think i ended up wearing a set of lenes for 2months, becus i 4got...nothin happened thankfully.
I've never had anything happen to me and I've worn them for up to 2 months- the time I dropped a lense down a plughole and didn't have one to replace it  but they did start to feel quite uncomfortable towards the end!

Fair enough FruitcakeLiz but I disagree. My cousin once slept in contacts by accident and because of that single incident has had a serious eye infection problem for the past few months. Im sure the manufacturers know what theyre doing when they say 31 days, just like they knew what they were saying when they instructed my cousin not to where his for more than about 10 hours.

Why cant you get a new pair?

You can, but you shouldn't.

I have done it a few times but i know i shouldn't.

Basically the plastic wears out over time, if you handle them very little (like me) they can last over a month with no problems.

I think generally people would handle their lenses more (i have had a lot of practice with them) so they wear out quicker.

Its true though that it increases the chances of an eye infection, you've reminded me to change mine. I think they are probably in a few days over.

But why are you doing it if you know you shouldn't do so?

cos I have to cos I cant see and have no glasses and cant afford another pair, especially with specsavers where I would have to buy 3 pairs all at once.

But surely you had a pair of glasses before you got contacts? I remember being told, when I had contacts, to make sure I had a spare pair of glasses just in case.

Your eyes won't fall out. I've done it.
The only thing I've found recently is that sometimes they'll tear a little bit, which really irritates the eye. They're usually okay to last longer.

I don't take mine out for days at a time; no adverse side-effects whatsoever.

I'm surprised your eyes don't feel dry afterwards.

Once, I'd forgotten to take mine out before going to bed and it was great in the morning because I could see everything as soon as I opened my eyes but then my eyes felt reallllllly dry and it was like my lenses were stuck to my eyes. Not nice.

depends on the type, some are designed so that you can wear them when you sleep. Most aren't.

Can't see it doing too much damage but Id still stick to what they suggest, can't you just wear some other contacts or get some cool glasses.

Nothing as convenient as a good old pair of handy spectacles  You can reman carefree and unrestricted in your daily activities (swimming, etc.)
BA, don't do it. Get a new pair, otherwise you may end up damaging your eyes.
