My friend is Belaemic

last night i found out that my friend is belaemic.
he used to be before we were friends but started again 3 weeks ago.

hes been having problems with his girlfriend and he said he was doing it so he wouldnt loose her.

im really worried about him and i dont know what to do

any advice?

we came home and his girlfriend told us.
she told him im not gonna leave you but im not gonna watc u do this to urself.

a spelling lesson doesnt really help in this situation but advice does.

Do you mean bulimic? You need to get him to talk to someone, a doctor, teacher, parents - if he used to be bulimic, then stopped and has now started again, he has a problem and it needs to be sorted out. Did he tell you, or did you find out by accident?

So tell me exactly how does puking your food up prevent your girlfriend from leaving you?

I heard that another reason why people become bullimic is that they see it as a way to take control of their life.

aww thats awful,

hun my cousin had the same thing it got so bad she was in a wheelchair for a few weeks while she got stronger, if you are the only one who knows about your mates problem you need to get him help and even if he doesn;t want it, he will thank you in the long run and i hope everything gets better for him and he gets well

Binge-eating and then throwing up is going to make things better for him? Seems pretty delusional to me...what does his gf say about it?
Just be there for him.

its a psychological thing, one of her best friends is her ex boyfriend.
and hes jealous and is trying to be better than him so he doesnt lose her
Bulimia isn't exactly rational anyway....

Thats a surefire way to make people think you're crazy...then again, if his gf stands by him and helps him out...
I don't get bulimics. Why bother eating at all if you're going to throw it up?

Bulimics just aren't as hardcore as anorexics.

Its a comfort thing. Then they "feel guilty" and throw it back up.

Thats true, anorexics starve themselves.
Both are just as dangerous and you can die from both illnesses so just don't compare which one is more "hardcore"

The actual death rate isnt all that high, (around 3-4%) but 10% do suffer permanent harm. Vomiting repeatedly can rot your teeth, for example, and anorexics can become infertile.

(from my days as a psychology student at A-level)
I did all that last year...not a very pleasant topic but interesting.

No, but then I've seen far worse (excuse me for seeming so casual about it).

his gf is there for him, but what can i do to help him?

me and my friends thought rent out a movie about this girl who was bullimic and show the consequences of the illness

or compliment him on the way he looks... etc etc

he said hes gonna stop drinking cos apparently when he drinks he finds it ok to throw up etc.. i dunno :frown:

Stopping drinking is a good start. The first 2 methods there may also help. But yeah, in general being supportive is important.
