They gave a BMI of 14.9 which indicates being very underweight for ANY given height.

body builders can go down to 6% does this mean they are under weight at not healthy?

i cant believe you guys are assuming this person is at an unhealthy weight even though no weight or hight has been given.............................

At this weight you can safely assume that she(?) has lost ALOT of both fat AND muscle... not healthy :/

14.9 bmi.... As far as I know a normal bmi is about 23-25.

How can this person not be unhealthy?

Your bmi is irrelevant. It's the amount of energy and nutrients you're starving your body of that will hurt or even kill you.

I suggest you go to your gp and get some needed help. They are the only ones that an appropriately deal with/refer you to a specialist to help deal with your situation. I know it seems hard just telling a total stranger you life problems, but remeber your gp is a trained proffessional with a lot of experience on how to deal with these type of situations and will do their utmost best to put you at ease and make you feel comfortable. In the meantime ask for some guidance off of trusted family memebers or friends.

Mine's 16.8 which is pretty low but I DON'T starve myself...
I don't follow the relationship between depression and deliberately starving. Also 'being made to feel' kind of suggests you take no ownership of your actions. Like if people didn't make force you feel cr*p, you wouldn't be 'forced' to starve. Well no one's forcing you to do it, and if you know it's bad for you, which it clearly is, then why keep punishing yourself? It's like someone bullies you and you think you deserve it so you physically punish yourself as well as mentally... isn't the mental punishment enough? Does starvation really take your mind off of your depression??

I'd think about going to the GP for a referral to a nutritionist, as well as, and possibly more importantly, a counsellor/clinical psychologist.

Edit; Echoing posters before me.

Sometimes?? No offence but I think there is more to this than just problems with other people. Otherwise the OP might not have let them self get so underweight.

If someone can recognize they have a problem like this, it should be easier for them to start fixing it, but they have to take initaiative and do it. OP, Don't let bs from other people get to you. Stress happens to us all. Now you have come on here asking for advice so please don't ignore what advice has been given. Good luck.

your right but the bmi is a pathetic measure of true body fat percentage, read above post

you dont know there initial bmi so any weight loss cannot be assumed she may already have been at this weight, still can be perfectly healthy

For me, cutting is always about the rush and the release it gives.
Don't see how starving yourself could have the same effect?

I thought about cutting but i dont want scars. When im emotional and angry i want to hurt myself by starving. Thinking about it gives me a form of release.

You don't understand BMI - it doesn't take into account body fat. This means its not a great measurement for athletes as muscle weighs more than fat. Bodybuilders would be classed as obese probably - but obviously they are not.

Being underweight is to do with WEIGHT not fat content, although the two are linked.

A BMI of 14.9 is incredibly low. A BMI below 16 is classed as severely underweight. A BMI approaching 15 is considered an indicator of starvation.
An eating disorder is not always about wanting to be thin. Overeating is an eating disorder too and thats not about being thin. An ED is basically when for one reason or another, your 'eating' goes 'wrong' So yes. You are anorexic. In the medical sense. As your stress causes you not to eat. You may not be doing it to be thin but its the same disorder. You should seek help to find better ways of dealing with it. I used to be a self harmer but I have managed to not SH for a while now because I evetually got help (when parents found out), and went into therapy and they find alternatives. Not all work for you. You just have to wait and see which do.

Good luck though. Should you need a chat PM me, I also have had ED probs in the past but it never got too bad in the sense I needed treatment and heck I am a size 16 right now!! lol but I still know all the ins and outs of not eating etc.

a. go the doctors - they will help you - don't be scared
b. try thinking positively - you probably have something that makes you happy [tea makes me happy], so everytime you feel like you're not going to eat for the evening - think happy thoughts!
c. don't force yourself to eat, start slowly and build your diet up
d. IGNORE WHAT PEOLE SAY because [some] people are stupid and aren't worth stressing over. Don't listen to them, don't let others put you down. This is your life, it isn't controlled by others and you know how to control it

17.5 (i think) is the bmi needed to be diagnosed with anorexia/put in hospital. I suggest you put some weight on if you don't have anorexia and if you do seek medical help.

Yeah the scars are always there...but in a weird way I have grown to like them.

They remind me of how low I was, and how I kept on going anyway; how I used the razor to just to slice a little, rather than actually cut deep into an artery and give in and bleed to death.

Whatever works for you I guess, although you probably should get help (hypocritical coming from me really).

Thanks.
There is more but i dont want to give away who i am.
That bmi does indicate an unhealthy weight, you need to start changing your attitude towards food, because if you continue like this it will not be long before you are hospitalized . And that really will not be fun.

You are confusing BMI aka body mass index with body fat percentage.

BMI is a calculation which uses height and weight. Although it has no direct link to actual fatness, it does estimate health risks and mortality. A BMI of less than 18.5 is generally considered underweight (although there are exceptions).

While my BMI is not as low as the OP, I am clearly underweight and have a similar reaction to bad situations. It's only in the last couple of weeks that I've restarted eating after a period of starvation, eating either very little food or no food at all for most days during that time. I don't want to be thin, I hate it. It makes me look diseased.

Total bullsh*it! This whole BMI scale is such a crap. Anyways if we take a person with BMI of 17.5 he/ she will be considered slim, especially if its a girl. I got many girls and few guys whose BMI is around 17.5-18 and they look totally healthy and not anorexic...

14.9 is on the other hand a bit low.
Just dont starve urself, try to find other ways of releasing stress like going swimming in the pool, or going to the gym, or just listening to music.

Good idea is to put ur music on and go jogging, it will help for sure

And if you want to gain weight just drink more milk or have few sandwiches with butter even if you are not really hungry.

I am skinny myself but im working on it and am already gaining weight..

GL and dont starve!
