why is sodium softer than copper ???

Q.2 potassium chloride and tin(IV)chloride can both be made by heating the metal in chlorine. However, the chlorides formed contain different types of bond. >>i just dont understand this statement ...isnt ionic bond being formed in both cases !

1. weaker bonding as Na only provides one valence electron to the delocalised sea of electrons and the Na ions only have a single positive charge

2. tin IV chloride is covalent
