Hello
Basically we've done our AS exams and are now starting to go straight into the A2 module. We have to create our own business for the coursework and then create a business plan and research all factors (competitors, finance 'what if' scenarios etc).
Most people in the class seem to have an idea of what they want to do, I'm still stuck.
I was thinking along the lines of a cafe or a gadget shop, unless anyone has any great ideas for a business that would be enjoyable? Just really stuck

Do you really plan to start your own business, or you need this information just for your coursework? I mean the answer means a lot.

I'm not actually making the business in real life, but I have to treat it as if I was going to create the business as I have to make a business plan, cater for all scenarios, work out all costings etc.
Thanks.

Okay, but for the sake of the coursework, do you think I'd be alright doing something like a cafe?

I don't think so, usually people got used to cafes which are near their homes. I mean traditions and so on.
Besides all officials will come to you regular, different regular expenses, such as rent of the area for a cafe and so on. As it seems to me the risk of the cafe business is about 7 of 10.
If you knew what kind of business I'm thinking about, and your teacher would read it in your coursework. She would be a bit shocked.

Is this AQA Applied?

Either way, a cafe is OK. But the key thing is to think about what is easy to research for COST DATA - if you can get fairly detailed and realistic figures its great as you have to then work these into forecast profit etc. One good option is a SERVICE based ONLINE business like dating agency - keeps cost data nice and simple as easy to find cost of PC, estimate travel costs to interview people etc.

be prepared to make sensible estimates if its taking AGES to get data - spell out you did this in your work.

Could put "buy a franchise UK" in google and explore franchise business opportunities for ideas. Hope this helps.
