Braces :(

Seeking supportive comments!

I just had two teeth taken out so that I can have a brace put on next month (a white one -hopefully very discreet- thank goodness.)

I'm worried about how I'll look. I'm 17 and everyone else has them off by now. I know it's going to make me less attractive and I'm going to have to handle it - but does anyone have any tips/comfort? Are guys never going to look at me? Please say it will be ok!

Sorry to bother everyone with such an egoistic post; I am feeling really down about this. My smile is all ugly now my two teeth have come out.
  :frown: :frown:

I lived with my two upper canines taken out for a year when I was 15, there was such a delay until I could finally get braces. You'll get used to them in no time. Besides I've seen a few people at uni with the full metal works - and they have boyfriends!

Yeah, don't worry about it. I'm sure it'll be quite discreet if it's white, so people probably won't even notice.

well, the first girl i ever fell for didn't have braces when i first met, and then had them for the next two years, but i really couldn't care less - i still loved her just as much. anyhows, please don't worry about it - white braces won't be very noticeable anyway.

Thankyou people all so much! You're right you're right, they are a minor issue.

Nooni....looks like we'll be okay. At least we'll have them off eventually. Just got to try and forget about it.

Heydon't worry about it. I didn't even notice one of my friends had braces till she got them taken off.. I was like... something's changed....

But really, they won't be a turn off, and if a guy doesn't like them then he is overly superficial and is undeserving. I didn't mind mine at all.. I preferred them to my retainer :frown:

yep, I have braces and I'm 16 and they're metal. Probably will still have em by the time I'm 17, so no need to worry. (I have a boyfriend, and he doesn't mind)

I was still waiting for my adult teeth to come through  but they're all off now and looking really straight.
I'm 17 - had braces for over three years now! Hopefully they're coming off in about 6 weeks.....they'd better, it's screwing up my flute-playing....but yeah, they're really not that bad, you get used to them in no time at all.
i actually think some girls look really cute with braces. x

yeah, I found it a bit strange playing my flute straight after I'm had them off! I'f changed the shape of my mouth when I play to go around them so when I took them off I found it quite hard to get a clear sound for a day or two!

I didn't have any trouble when I still had them on though!

Mine are tightened every 5 weeks or so....kinda disrupts it....and then there's stupid elastic bands....grrr....

But no worries, braces are great!! :p::smile:

how long they hurt for because i am getting it fixed two days before a resit exam. Does it hurt as soon as they go on or just after the first tightning?

It hurts like hell for the first day after they get put on at least, make sure you have paracetamol handy! When it gets tightened it also hurts quite a bit but for me it wasn't as bad as when they were first put on. Totally worth it though, I promise you it's worth it, plus they aren't that noticeable I find after the first few months as your teeth are already looking so much straighter, it seems to make it more subtle!

Good luck you will be fine, and you never know you might grow rather fond of it like I did!

 how can you be called Emma, Emma? i joined before you and still i had to write it with big letters and and with these _ _ ....i'm jealous

anyway, i wouldn't worry about it. some guys might think that it is cute. and you won't have it forever, just think about how good your teeth will look when you remove them!

Ah braces...nothing but pain and more pain...until you get them removed and look at your great straight teeth. I just had mine removed last month and can safely say they were worth it. And anyways, I know its a bit shallow to wonder if guys will still look at you..but if you think of it that way, guys would prefer someone with straight teeth wouldn't they? So better in the long run..

Braces are part of society, people will be surprised when they first see you have them - then thats it - loads of people get braces, my former English teacher thought it was 'part of fashion'!!! (He was a bit strange, but still lol)

I had the braces that everyone can see, and no one really took any notice, to with white braces I am sure they will be really discreet!

Don't worry about it!
