Wheres the poll?
And yes, it is grim up north.

Very, very grim. I was wearing a vest under many layers in the summer, I was in a pub and the door opened and I shivered more than I already was due to the draft. Northerner pipes up something along the lines of "oooo I'm thankful for the breeze on a hot day like this".

The first time I went north of Birmingham I went on the train. I thought we were going by a long and tall grey building. It was the sky.

Northerners themselves are generally much more amiable than southerners. Though they whinge more :p:
its better up here

Depends really. Places like Newcastle and Leeds are really nice as are rural areas like Northumberland and Cumbra. But some places like Oldham and Bradford are still pretty grim.

I like the way the northern accent is attributed towards the people who agree it is grim rather than the people who are from the north on the poll!

Now you see, I dont have that much of an opinion of the north really, except I prefer the south :p:
And as for the accent, to quote someone from college
You dont have an accent, well you do, but its a BBC one

Ooh, bah gum, yess...

Got to say it IS cold up here! My poor little toesies!
Reply 7
It most certainly is not grim up North!! It may be cold but our house prices are cheaper...

Ooohhhh the north is fab! Certainly not grim and as for it being colder think of the fabulous winter coats and accessories!

Depending where it is not that cold at all especialy in the big cities, its a lot warmer than Scotland for example. In the summer it can easily reach 35c.

It's actually been colder here in Aber than it has back home! (Home being near Durham)

nope...nothing wrong with it.

should be noted though, you arent northern unless you live north of the red line on the map attached.

those just south of it might think they are northern, but they are just wannabes.

I can assure you that it has never ever been 35 degrees where I live since records began. In fact our absolute highest record is 32 and I'd say ouraverage was 23.
Yes. In terms of both weather and people.

Oh don't even try that. It's bloody freezing this time of year. At home I can go out in a jumper at this time of year and not get cold. And the summer? Don't get me started on that. The weak rays can bearly break through the clouds and it seems to consist of humidity and squelchiness than anything else. You don't have the gorgeous brilliant rays of sun you get practically every day in summer in my part of the country.

I just find the north really depressing to be in, I'm used to the sun, the sea, the warmth, being able to actually walk from my house into countryside...

Northern countryside is quite charming if you can get over how bleak and gloomy it is - there's always a black cloud brooding on the hoizon somewhere. Meh. The north will always be grim in terms of weather.

I bet most the people who says its awful have never been up north and if they have I bet its some crap town.
I grew up in the South and have moved up North for University, and I must say I do like it a lot. In Newcastle, there is a definate contrast between Northerners and Southerners, and I don't experience much cross-race friendships, but I am proud to say that all my friends here are Northern and I've never met nicer people. The North rocks!

I disagree. Anyone south of the purple line on this map is a southern softy northern wannabe  .
