I'm just wondering why the whole UCAS thing. Is it really really compulsory we apply through UCAS? Can't we just apply to universities directly and get an instant decision? why is the system monopolised? Can't we protest or the government authorise more admissions service? Just wondering  ?

UCAS is the only way to apply to UK unis, apart from some circumstances (ie: St. Andrews for American overseas applicants)

this way is faster and more effective!
just think of how much paper work you have to do for each. times that by the number of university you are applying to.
Although i can see your point that you can choose more than 6 choices that UCAS is limited you to.

But in the end you can still only go to one uni, so if you got hundreds of offers you'd still have to make that decision, just later on in the application process. Centralising it under UCAS and restricting your choices just saves people - both applicants and admissions tutors - a lot of work. And saves the trees. Huzzah.

Well I dont know about everyone else, but my experience with UCAS has been okay?
The online application form was easy to fill in, I got a fairly quick response from Ucas, and they were sent to the unis quite quickly. And track provides good feedback on the status.
Whats the alternative? Getting individual application forms for each of the unis you'd like to go to having to fill in each of them in and send them off yourself. then having to hear back... with no single system of following all of them, and reply individually to each of them.

If people could apply to more than 6 unis, it would really put down your chances I think too. More applicants to each uni.

If you dont apply through UCAS for a september entry you WILL have problems with the student loan company/LEA funding etc.
