i have heard that you should walk at least 10 000-15 000 steps per day for health reasons, the steps themselves don't do much....its just a way of measuring.

What health reasons are there? Am I going to die because I don't take 15000 steps a day? ****!!!11!

The goverment say we should do around 10,000 steps per day to stay healthy. But that is alot, i doubt many people do that.

Most people however, only get around 2,000 - 2, 500

I think its just ment to be good exercise or something.

to stay in shape, it will keep your muscles from decomposition (couldn't think of another word for it). you won't die, but for people who doesn't exercise anything during the day, for example take bus to school, sit all day, and then go home and sit in front of the computer debating on tsr that could be a rule to apply.

it is just a measurment and a recomendation like saying, that you should walk 30min/day, or eat an apple to keep the doctor away. some sort of excercise is only good for you. you know that imasillynarb, i have read several of your posts on health related threads concerning excercise and eating habits. i don't know exactly how long 15 000 steps will be, maybe it is a bit exaggerated but point is, if you want to stay in shape you can use a step counter so you know how long you should walk. personally i think its enough to use a watch but thats irrelevant.

The steps is an easy target for people to keep track of how much exercise they are getting, you should think of it as a guideline like the 5 a day rule. You aren't going to die without them, but it shows you how you can make small changes to make an overall difference to your health.
the counters are inacurate but 10000 steps a day is supposed to keep you nice and fit!! but you do need to do exercise aswell. lol

My muscles are decomposing?!??? I'm gonna go for a big long walk now..

no. you have to do 18242 steps per day to maintain weight and prevent muscle 'decomposion'. if you dont you will become fat and your legs will begin to deteriorate into nothing.
what if you have lots of sex instead?

I heard that if you took 10,000 steps a day, you could eat mostly anything you wanted and not put on any weight. Obviously, it's within reason, and I heard that about two years ago when these counter things first started being plugged. Health stuff changes all the time so I presume that's been disproved now and it's just 10,000 will keep you fit, but it's just a new suggestion; like eating 5 pieces of fruit or drinking 8 pints of water, most people won't do it and not notice a difference.

that's complete rubbish - who the hell walks only 2000-2500 steps per day? that's probably only about a mile in distance, which i'm sure most people easily do!

why are you acting so stupid?
i'm aware that decomposing wasn't the right word to use (as i pointed out) point is, its a guidline.
