The Student Room Group

Accommodation- its all pretty good but varies from the likes of whitefields/cryfield (smallish room, no ensuite) to those of arthur vick/lakeside (pretty much like living in a hotel). Price wise its from about £50ish a week to £90 or so a week.

Parties- what you make of them really. I go to a fair few as all of my mates are mainly off campus now (being a 3rd year) so they hold house parties, you'll probably have a fair few in halls though (been to a couple on campus this year).

Nightlife- the union is OK, it gets a bit repetitive once you go there all the time for 3 years though. Coventry has a fair few bars (bit knifey, not too big a fan of them but they're ok for a pint or two), and a few clubs (collusseum, ikon/diva etc). Leamington has mirage (or whatever its called now...), sugar, robbens well (good alternative music scene there) etc.

Surroundings- coventry. Not the nicest place in the world. Does the job though with stuff such as tescos nearby, downtown cov isn't that far on the bus either from campus. Birmingham is nearby too. Then theres leamington. Some people prefer it to cov (bit less concrete, looks a lot nicer (north leam), south leam is as bad as cov imo), personally i'm not so sure, its ok but a bitch to get to/from if you live in cov...

Company- join sports teams/societies and you'll meet loads of like minded people to go to the union etc with. Especially important if your flatmates in your first year are a bunch of arses. Its what you make of it though- if you spend all your time shacked up in your room then you'll expect not to make friends etc- remember that as a fresher everyone is in the same boat and looking for mates so its pretty easy.

Generally I'd agree with Ynox. Accommodation is varied but all pretty good really. Living off campus can be dodgier but there are some really fantastic houses too! As Ynox says, there are plenty of parties about and ones in the mansion-type-houses some people seem to rent off campus are great, but it can be just as fun having a big piss up in a kitchen on campus if you've got the right people there. Plenty to do in terms of nightlife really - I don't really like the union personally but plenty of people do, and there are loads of bars/clubs in Leamington and Coventry as Ynox says. Plus Birmingham is a really short train ride from Coventry if you're desperate for something else to do and there's the Carling Academy there which gets some pretty good bands.
I'd say North Leamington was much nicer than Coventry personally, and even if you're living in South Leam at least you've got North Leam to go shopping/out in. But it's true it can be a pain to travel from - need a good MP3 player for the bus!
And as for the company, well it's what you make of it really. There are *loads* of ways to meet people - halls, course, sports/societies, chatting to randoms you meet at the union/doing your shopping/whatever - so if you want to make friends it's pretty easy! As long as you don't hide away and actually do stuff then you're bound to find someone out of the 10,000 odd (or whatever it is) students about that you get on with!

Accomodation - I agree... it definitely depends where you are regarding price and facilities etc. I'm in Rootes and absolutely love it. I thought it was going to be a bit skanky as it's one of the cheapest, but it's totally fine. As I'm in New Rootes it's all new and clean and I love living on a corridor so you get to know so many more people.

Parties/nightlife - I've only been at Warwick for a term so I have yet to find the union repetitive. I love it! I go 3 or 4 times a week, and the other nights we spend back in our halls watching a film or generally drinking at home. Coventry and Leamington have clubs and bars and if you are desperate them Birmingham isn't that far away.

Surroundings - Well, Coventry isn't the nicest town I've ever been to but it's perfectly decent. It's got a few good shops and places to go out. I've only left campus several times all term though as the campus itself is so good and really has everything you need. Birmingham is pretty close and good for shopping!

Company - I've made the most amazing friends this term! My main friends are from my halls but I've also got friends from my course and other cheerleaders. If you join a sports team you will get to know the other people very well and I guess the same for most societies.
Hey,

I lived in Jack Martin in the first year and it was brilliant. Lived with amazing friends and lots of fun! Despite me opting for a 'quiet' corridor, it was nothing of the kind - lots of parties, going out etc. The union was perfect for the first year - its one of the biggest in the country I'm told - theres a different night on every night and theres different places within the union - Marketplace, The Cooler, Graduate, and Zippys (or whatever its called now, Club Graduate possibly..?). The Graduate is a really cool space to chill out - big leather sofas, pub style! Theres also Rootes bar - good to watch sport in, have casual drinks etc and Varsity on the edge of campus. I didnt really leave campus in the first year.

In the second year I lived in Leam. Leams fun to go out in - Sugar, Mirage, Bar 44 etc but I'm glad I live somewhere totally new this year! Leam also takes ages to get to in rushhour and despite me having a car and going the backway through Stoneleigh, living in Earlsdon (Cov) this year is heaps easier! I was VERY sceptical about living in Cov this year but I'm really enjoying it. Earlsdon is nicer than where I was living in Leam and theres loads of new places to go out in Cov. I'm even frequenting the Cov Students Union as one of my housemates is at Cov Uni!!

I love the fact that during my time at Warwick I've lived in totally different places each year! I think its worth saying that the idea of a campus uni should be very attractive to you if you choose Warwick. I loved living on campus. They call it a bubble; you don't need to leave campus unless you want to!

That was a longer post than intended!! I guess its the enthuasium speaking!!

I'm a fresher and I'm surprised at how much I'm missing it all.

the union is probably the worst place I've ever been to.
Have to be very very drunk to make it and the people there bearable.
Where is cov uni union? my housemates and I were looking for it a couple of weeks ago, we wanted to give it a go! Do they let anyone in?
Still Ill

The people there are only "bearable" if very very drunk? No need to be so stuck up, is there? Do you have any friends at Warwick with that attitude?

The union is what you make it. I love it and always have a fantastic time! If you're up for a good time and go with your friends then that's all that matters. I think it does an amazing job of coping with everyone's different music tastes.
LOL, how can an entire uni population be 'bearable' - I think the majority of the uni has been into the union at some point, theres so many different nights etc.

Cov Union is near (ish) the ringroad on Priory Street I'm told. We always get taxis there, so not entirely sure how to get there! The Oak is a good student pub about 1 min away from the union. Theres also the Phoenix/Camble and a little further up Varsity/Lloyds/Yates. We always have a good night!

priory street, not *that* near the ring road but the #12 goes nearby. The phoenix is a good pub, rocksoc (warwick) used to have nights there (they may still actually, cant be arsed checking).

As for the union, some nights are **** even if you drink a load. Others are ok, depends on what you like etc (e.g. I despise soul nation or whatever its called now and avoid it), only go to nights you'll enjoy and you should find it at least bearable.

Go Hills!!! I agree..there is NO need for that attitude 'stillill', sure there will be people you do not get along with, but most people at Warwick are very friendly and easy-to-get-along-with...irrespective of whether either of you are drunk!!!

Jesus, you people have no sense of humor.
