Yeah, you can ask them why they rejected you, but they don't have to say.

Sorry to hear about your rejection :frown:

I doubt they will give any more than the generic answer: too many people, not enough places. I'll be expecting my rejection soon *sigh*
ring or email them.

a friedn of mine got rejected by queen marys last year, and when she rung them up to ask why, she managed to change their mind! i know lse is on a completely different level to qmul, but its worth a shot!

LSE normally doesn't tell you the reasons for your rejection. That's at least what they say on their websites.
But: Somebody here on TSR emailed? them and got an answer different from the 'too many applicants for the few places' thing. Check the LSE subforum! And you've got nothing to lose anymore. So there's no harm in trying to get the reasons.

who exactly would u email to find out the reason why sum1 rejected u?
my friend got rejected from LSE and the university liaision teacher of ur school sent them a letter...

and they replied that he had a too general personal statement!!!..hehe
keep in mind he had full marks as prediction!
Why do you feel you have grounds to appeal?

LSE is incredibly competitive, it's very unlikely you can have the decision overturned, let alone get a proper, real reason for your rejection.

Are they exempt from the 'Data Protection act 1998'?

No, but I don't think that the Act covers reasons for rejections. There has to be a line drawn somewhere, and reasons for rejections, which can be considered as opinions, cannot probably be forced out through this Act.

I think they would be able to highlight the reasons to your school's liaison teacher though.

can you tell us or is it top secret?

Undergraduate Admissions at the LSE do not normally provide reasons for unsuccessful applications. If you do enquire about it, you are likely to receive a standard response, something along the lines of 'due to severe competition for places we were unfortunately unable to offer you a place'. But it's still worth contacting them, you never know.

You don't necessarily have to mention both subjects, I applied for this course last year but only wrote about one of the subjects in my Personal Statement. Read this (Taken from the International History Admission Criteria):

3 Personal statement

We look for evidence of genuine interest in History or in International Relations and History together with an understanding of what studying these subjects at LSE involves. Your extra-curricular activities will be taken into consideration particularly if they provide more evidence of your motivation to study these subjects. Work experience, however, is not used as a selection criterion.

Wow, I find it quite impressive that, with that many applicants, they actually bother giving individuals reasons for not offering them a place. That they even remembere you/bothered to look your application back up! Really impresses me  Good thing!

I remember LSE Undergraduate Admissions saying they keep temporary files for unsuccessful/successful applications. Sometimes they disclose them, other times they don't.
