I am scared

Yesterday I was feeling my neck, and felt a lump on the back of it. It's on the right hand side, and feel like a hard spot underneath my skin. I asked my Med school friend, and he says he thought it was a gland popping out :s-smilie:

... Has anyone else had this?

If there is somthing there that isn't normal, i.e shouldn't be there you're best off going to the doctor. It probably is nothing but but its best to safe than sorry.

Nothing can be worse than a wrong diagnoses given over the internet.

surely its just an enlarged gland.....maybe from a cold or something?

Yes, I got one from a sore throat, go to a doctor! Mine went on its own though without any medicine. It is quite scary at first, I thought the lump was too big to be a swollen gland...

Last Christmas Day evening i was watching television and was playing with my hair when i felt a lump on the left hand side of my neck just under my hairline. It really freaked me out and I kept feeling it all night. By the next day I'd convinced myself I had cancer and couldn't think about anything else. My mum told me to leave it for a few days and if i doesn't go down then she'd take me to the doctors. The worst thing i did was to look up 'neck lumps' on the internet as everything i found made me feel even worse. I ended up going to the doctors for a skin rash a couple of weeks later and I told the doctor about it and when she felt it and saw its position she told me that it was a swollen gland, I nearly kissed her i was so relieved!!!
The best thing you can do is leave it for a while and try not to worry, i know its hard but there is no point getting yourself into a state unnecessarily :biggrin:
