In desperate need of A2 English Language Investigation Coursework topics!

Hey guys,

I'm wondering if any one can help with some really imaginative, interesting and in depth discussions I could do for my coursework?

My initial ideas were to write about the differences in lyrics in two different genres, or about the difference in genders in describing pictures, or specific language used while playing games...

I'm not sure these are creative enough though
If someone could help I'll be very grateful!
As a follow up to the difference in lyrics between two genres....what about the difference in language between two era's. I mean with "text speech" and all the seemingly random words in the dictionary these days (such as "doh" and "bouncebackability"). I think that would be really interesting, even compared with say 20 years ago.

I did mine about whether the gender language stereotypes of men held by theorists in the 20th century are still true of men in the 21st... basically getting all of the 20th century gender theory, which most of it is, and then making a few transcripts of guys in conversation and seeing how well they match up

got an A* and it was pretty easy and quite interesting!
For mine I compared the use of lexis in a tabloid and broadsheet regarding the government cuts (probably boring for most people). I really enjoyed it. My teacher said that at first she thought it was quite a 'safe' option but said that my coursework was solid, that I had made it my own and covered the higher bands  It depends what you're interested in, I love talking about language and power, how politicians use language etc.

For mine, I did an analysis of advertisements aimed at women during the 20th century and how they had changed, sort of a language change over time revision exercise.
Here are some of my other ideas:
- Analysis of two songs from different eras and how they compare semantically (have to be similar songs, maybe love songs or something)
- A comparison of the language from an old science textbook and a new one
- An analysis of a text to entertain with the purpose of identifying ways in which it entertains
- An analysis of ANY text and how it uses specialised language (science textbook, gardening manual, car manual etc)
- Comparison of a women's magazine advice column to a men's magazine advice column
- Analysis of grammar or whatever you want in Afro-American subdialects or English dialects (this one would be really hard)
- Transcript analysis of a salesperson with the purpose of identifying how she makes her sale (or he)

Basically just anything, honestly, it's not difficult to make something up.

hello there, i know you done this a little while ago, and don't know if you are still using this site, but i was wondering if you could tell me more about your coursework, and what exam board you was on. and i was thinking of doing it for women, instead of men, any ideas?

thank you millions,
Hi
You wouldn't happen to have any advice about what theories to look at, I'm doing something similar to this question and I seem to have walked head first into a giant brick wall!
