Prom: Tiara or no Tiara?

Original post by Mask Of Sanity
Depends on the tiara.

Something like this which is closer to a headband:

Yeah, I agree with you. I wore a gem headband similar to these ones to my Year 11 prom. It's cute and elegant, without being over-the-top and tacky

But OP, I think it should be up to you what you want to wear. If you really want to wear a tiara, then you should just go for it if it'll make you happy - forget what other people will think!

Aww thank you, mine is similar to a headband also, but I don't think I'll wear it though because I'm not sure if the silver will go with my dress and I think the gold would definitely look tacky

I'm in the same predicament, I just don't know if it will go with my tux.

I faced a dilemma like this for my prom - I had a bit of a beehive at the top, with my fringe swept to one side and then a french plait around the back which ended with curls over one shoulder. Even though my dress was really glitzy, my hair looked really plain from the front, but I am NOT a tiara person, so I went for a glittery head band (I'll put a link to the picture below).

There were also a few people at my prom who wore hair vines ( http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://media.theknot.com/ImageStage/Objects/0011/0022892/large_image.jpg&imgrefurl=http://weddings.theknot.com/Wedding-Pictures/22892/detailview.aspx%3Ftype%3D11%26ID%3D22892&usg=__APSgBkn7CRxYZBQIdEvotOlGAAU=&h=300&w=310&sz=32&hl=en&start=0&sig2=RHUzgFTH2hsLGjqnVzaPmA&zoom=1&tbnid=BDIfzeFidkmN1M:&tbnh=131&tbnw=133&ei=AAb9Tb3PJsWr8AO9y_mpCQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhair%2Bvine%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D685%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=354&vpy=212&dur=1280&hovh=221&hovw=228&tx=175&ty=120&page=1&ndsp=29&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:0&biw=1280&bih=685 )

and other hair pieces like this - http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.fashionclothingtoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Hair-Accessories-Trends-For-20101.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.fashionclothingtoday.com/hair-styles/hair-accessories-trends-for-2010/&usg=___hgvyujGq8BBTrj5Gt-JtnjKSLo=&h=400&w=400&sz=25&hl=en&start=0&sig2=1L3anHU95ER5pY6-laQSaA&zoom=1&tbnid=-JjnXi6N6ezZpM:&tbnh=161&tbnw=156&ei=Mwb9TbLSF8SY8QOB8cCqCQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhair%2Baccessories%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D685%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=881&vpy=355&dur=764&hovh=225&hovw=225&tx=141&ty=213&page=1&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:16,s:0&biw=1280&bih=685

and, if you decide to go for an updo, you can glam it up with those little gems that have a spiral on the back that you twist into your hair so you can just see the gem.

And this is the headband that I had.... http://thosewhomatter.piczo.com/post/370437/quotClose_My_Eyes_Fe
(I'm in the purple dress)

Hope I helped with some ideas!

I think you're right, it has to be done.

How else could I show people that I am the real Promzilla?

Ahh wow! You looked stunning! I get what you mean, because otherwise the hairstyle would of been too plain from the front so I think it needed it, I'm not sure because I was just going to have my hair down and curly with a side parting but that would be too plain and then I was think the tiara, but then everyone threw a hissy fit on that, but then I don't know how else to spruce it up, thanks for the ideas, i think I might go for the headband option or if all else fails the tiara but just play it down a bit if you get what I mean, thanks

Definitley, I don't know where I'd be without my lashes. I just hope they have a room for me to change into my seventeen other outfits during the prom.

Wear this instead.
if you're unsure, you could just wear a small, dainty gold headband?

Looll! This actually had me giggling quite a bit 'lined up in a range of skittle colours' but yeah i get what you mean, i just meant as in a small head piece, more like a headband, what do you think of that?

Yeah, I think the headbands are quite nice, and it'll be different to what other girls will have. Tiaras are so over done now, like in my other post, the girls looked like clones :giggle:

I don't understand how just excluding things and not offering a suggestion is actually helpful?

You .. really don't get it do you?
Large chunky necklace + chunky earrings = a nono.
That's a suggestion on how to wear jewellery to a formal event.
But it's your choice really. I was just telling you the proper way of wearing jewellery at formal events such as proms or dinner events.
Jewellery is jewellery. I don't know what your tastes are and what you like, so I cannot offer you any advice on what jewellery to pick. But what I do know is the proper etiquette on wearing them. And I was just passing it on to you. That itself is advice.

go for dimond clips
I personally woud'nt, why not wear a pretty hairband or a decorative hairslide, but DON'T wear too much jewellery it will just end up making your dress look cheap.
And try not to colour co-ordinate your whole outfit.
I think curly hair would look good
Are you a potential heir to any thrones?

If not, no tiara.

Aw thank you so much!

If you want to wear a tiara, don't let others throwing a hissy fit put you off it! You might even be surprised at some of the tiaras you can get, like really small dainty ones that just give you that bit of glam without being barbie-ish!

So yeah, I think you should just go and try on some different tiaras and headbands, perhaps have a hair trial so you can get an idea for how it would all look and go from there

EDIT - Also, just thought I'd point out that in one of my photos (the one where we're all in a line showing our shoes) the girl in red on the end had a tiara and NO ONE said anything about it because she carried it off really well - just another reason you shouldn't let other people put you off :P

I personally don't think you should but if you really want, I would say wear a small, dainty one so it doesn't look OTT.
Btw, anyone know any good makeup artists
