Learn the piano & violin or do ballet?

I'm 15 and always wanted to do ballet, when I was younger my mother never let me do ballet and I hated her for it, lol. I like twirling and jumping around and I really love dance, will I like ballet? My mother says it's babyish and I'm too old now which is annoying as when I wasn't old for it she didn't let me join :mad2:. Plus some of my friends say it's really boring.

Anyway...I also like the piano and always wanted to play the violin, I was thinking of learning both but would it take up much of my time? The thing is I am looking for a new hobby to be more active but I really do like the instruments. I think spare-time wise I can only pick between learning the piano and/or the violin or ballet?

Which one should I pick? Thanks!

If you think you'd regret not doing one of them then do ballet now, because the younger you start the better you will get I suppose. Obviously the same can be said for playing instruments, but you won't get physically less able to do them as quickly.

Try ballet, if you enjoy it then you've answered your question.

It's worth trying at least.
15's quite late to start ballet...
You could probably still get quite good if you put enough work in though

I'd stick with piano even if you do ballet, it's such a useful thing to be able to play that you'd regret not keeping it up when you're older.
Your mum never let you do Ballet? . . . . .Why? . . .

I use to play piano and the violin, but I've still continued with my dancing, and 21 years later!

BALLET BALLET BALLET
Can't you just teach yourself piano, you must have some spare time, play for fun?

I'd choose piano. I'm an organist by trade and there's nothing better than rocking up at some keys and belting out a tune everyone else knows and can sing along to.
I do ballet, and have known people start at the age of 15 and taken to it like a duck to water! It's a brilliant discipline, and I can't imagine not doing it ever! Give it a go!!

I do go to school, lol. And I need to study aswell.
I do ballet and it's such a good way to exercise, I'd say do it purely for that. It'll be a bit tricky to start with but to be honest you'll get used to it, especially if it's just as a hobby  And if you like dance you should enjoy it

Definitely do both violin and piano, I do both and they really complement each other. I find nothing more fulfilling than perfecting a piano performance. And the sound of the violin is stunning with vibrato and glissandi

But then again, you might be more of a ballet person. I did it for years when I was younger and I really enjoyed it. I think you should just do all of these hobbies. Or at least try a little of each one!
The instruments, definitely. I thought you had to start ballet really young to ever become truly good at it? And I've heard all sorts of horror stories about how it can mess up your body. I can't think of many things more rewarding than playing an instrument.

Ballet will take up a lot of time and will have a physical impact on your mental and physical energy as well. Including receiving injuries..especially if you're dedicated to any hobby you take up and are serious about it.

I'd say go for piano or vioin. I'd personally go for piano (I'm biased, I'm a grade 8 pianist) since it's the standard instrument to learn which makes learning any other instrument easier. Also, I find the posture of playing the violin too asymmetric and not that healthy for extended periods of time. For piano, your teacher will teach you to sit in the correct posture and play with minimal effort whilst you move between keys and make sure both your hands are nice and flexible. So it's physically healithier. Go for piano
Definitely learn piano - and hey, violin too while you're at it. Just for fun. Learning to play an instrument is the best thing you could ever do, imho.

oops:colondollar: well as much spare time you can dedicate to it:smile:
I do ballet and I'm 15, I started aged 10 and I quit for a year and a half though. I would say go for it, there are people in my class who have started recently and are around my age. You'll probably be put in a grade with people around your age as well so don't worry about having to start right at the bottom!

Try it, you can always quit at the end of the term if it's not for you!
