Antibiotics and the pill

I've just been put on antibiotics for a few days cos of my teeth. The dentist said that the pill won't work for the whole of the cycle now (i thought before it was just while you were taking them).

I'm in a LDR with my boyfriend, who i'm seeing over christmas and i'm wondering: should i just not start the antibiotic course until after xmas, take and tell him def no sex, or take it and hope a condom won't split or anything? Call me paranoid, but does anyone know if the morning after pill would also not work if you're taking antibiotics?? I'm just not sure whether i should risk anything.

Thanks in advance.

When I was on antibiotics, I was told that you should use backup while you're on the antibiotics, and for 7 days after. The doctor also said to carry straight on to my next pack of pills and not take the weeks break this time.

However, it might be different for different antibiotics so stick to what your doc told you.

Start the antibiotics now, the longer you leave it the harder things can become to treat and then you could potentially be dealing with resistance etc.
yea take the antibiotics and just use extra precautions for the time your on the antibiotics and 7 days after. if ur pill will run out before you have 7 good pills (ie after uve finshed the antibiotics) then u need to carry on to the next pack. A morning after pill should work fine if it was needed. a simple rule to remember is that 7 good pills (ie unffected by antibiotics, sickness etc) will effectivly turn offf your ovaries and ull be protected again.x

I'd take the antibiotics and use condoms, really antibiotics don't stop the pill from working completely they just lower the pills effectiveness I think so with another method such as condoms you should be fine
