Tanning beds

I have naturally fair skin, with blondish hair and light blue eyes. In natural sun I burn quite easily. When I was competing in youth bodybuilding I used a two week San Tropez thing with brushes and things to get a consistent tan. I never used the beds like almost everyone else due to the health risks and the fact my nan caught skin cancer in her 50s.

However, my mates have started at a proper health farm and look a lot fitter, healthier and- well- more attractive just because of a bit of tan from a standing up sun tube. I wouldn't mind a little more colour for a length of time (i don't compete anymore) but was wondering about the health risks. Surely a little bit of UV wouldn't do too much damage or would it? Also, if I decide to have a go, how long do you recommend in the tube. My friends do 2 lots of 3 minutes a week and look a fairly decent colour- but not Dickinson orange or anything.

yeah, it would do damage. use fake tan. id personally rather do that than risk skin cancer for vanity.

it can cause premature ageing of the skin, a big increase in chances of cancer like a malignant melanola, can also do some harm to the immune system. its not a great idea, especially if your already quite pale and skin cancer runs in your family. i wouldnt risk it. you would probably get covered in ephelides too anyway.

just for the record what were your stats while you were competing?
I've used them.... If you go to a tanning salon, they should advise you on how long to use the bed for, and what tanning creams to use. Just don't go too often!

ok. you sure they were 17 inch tho? at 167 that seems a little high
Oh I see...

Anyway, the short answer is that if you use tanning beds, you'll soon look a lot older than you are. Except, once you're in your twenties, you don't want to look older than you are any more. :p:

I'm 19 and have very soft, fair skin. I burn easily in the sun, although if I go somewhere hot for a long time, I will tan and go pretty dark. But I'd rather be pale and interesting at 20, and wrinkle-free at 30, than tanned and gorgeous at 20 and decrepit by 30.

yeah. i've got huge tris even now and back then i could lift the stack on pushdowns for 5 reps. Mind you, i saw a guy down the other day who'd stuck an extra couple of 24lbs on top of the metal. awful form tho.

my fat is my weak point. muscle grows really easily. Fat shifts with immense difficulty. I even tried ECA before Ibiza this year but it made me feel like ****. That 11% is probably the lowest its ever going to go. I still had the little bottom tyre as well.

With a history of skin cancer in your family I wouldnt really risk it. Fake it and just do that once a week to prevent the orange glow!

Under 20 Mr. Staffordshire. Was held in a sports hall, quite small scale really. All the guys in my class were natural. It's generally form that if you're on gear then you stick to the opens. The guy that won the real Mr Staffs was only 23, masssive and ripped to ****.
It was held in Feb (god that was a hard cut- as all my gym mates were bulking and eating burgers) and I came second out of nine. The top 4 were miles ahead, the rest shouldn't have even competed. One was ripped but, err, 154lbs and 5 foot 10. Another one had great depth to his back but you could barely see his top ab. Not exactly the Arnold Classic I'm sure you'll agree. It was honestly the proudest moment of my life though because I'd put so much work into it.

Sorry Helenia if this thread's gone off topic. On the issue of the beds I'll probably steer well clear. Really not worth damaging your health for a bit of a tan. Besides, people take the piss out of me for being vain. It would only add to the jip.

I was spending 6 days a week in the gym on some insane split we'd come up with and Cambridge had offered me 4 As or something daft, so I thought I'd better start some reading. lol.

hydrochloride (ephedrine), caffeine and aspirin stack for metabolism to help lose weight and it has anti-catabolic effects. it can raise blood pressure and can be pretty dangerous though. ephedrine is also banned other than by prescription so its not that easy to get hold of.
