help me with ideas for a football blog

pretty bored these days. was wondering if anybody had some football blogs they regularly visited and could share a few ideas of what makes a successful blog i guess, what makes the reader bookmark the page and come back to read more.

there's many concepts i'm looking at, just general article writing definitely interests me, for example; "What next for Rafael Benitez" or "Can United Win a 20th", obviously going in depth on both subjects and hopefully getting a discussion brewing.

another concept I LOVE, is Zonal Marking, you should check it out if you haven't already. He basically watches the games he picks and writes a report on them from a tactical view along with a couple of diagrams of the starting line ups. pretty intriguing to say the least and something i wouldn't mind doing.

finally, i know a fair bit about players from across the world, obscure ones that maybe some don't know, from the finish league, Argentine, belarus etc, but i'm not sure that kind of blog would pick up much heat.

a name for a blog is also something i need to think of  if anybody has an idea or two for one (preferably not a popular one) then please hit me with it.

thanks alot for reading, any help is appreciated.

Do you have a twitter account? Once you make your blog, you should promote it on their and get more readers.

I second the recommendation for ZM. :yy:

Swiss Ramble's good too - looks at the financial side of the game in a decent level of depth. The blogs on The Football Ramble site are also often interesting, the two sites aren't related though. Being an Arsenal fan I regularly read stuff like Arseblog/YoungGuns, both pretty good imo. Other than that I generally just read stuff like the articles on the Guardian's football section and pretty much anything that any of the football journalists I follow on twitter link.

If you write particularly well then I guess you could just do a general football blog about anything but if you don't think your writing style is particularly special and you're serious about drumming up a decent level of interest in it, I'd say try and stick to a certain area that you know particularly well. I dunno how much demand there'd be for all things Finnish/Belorussian, but I'd certainly be interested in a blog that gave regular updates of Argentinian football. You could perhaps start with a piece about how the season has gone over there; any new stars arising and which players look set to move across to Europe (perhaps a piece on Ricky Alvarez :awesome:). If you get in really quickly you could perhaps do a piece on River before their game tonight. It's also less than a week until Copa America now, you could do something on that too? Aside from the national team and the Argentinian league you could perhaps give regular updates of how some of their stars are getting on around Europe, obviously this isn't the greatest time for that but once the main European leagues get started back up you won't have a shortage of things to write about.

Btw, we attempted to get people writing football blogs after a suggestion a few months back on here but the idea fizzled out. Whatever you choose to write about, I'd say you should post your blog entries in here and make a separate thread to post each entry in that can allow comments/discussion, too. It should help get a fair bit of interest in whatever you chose to write about and it provides a good platform for discussion. Anyway, good luck. :yy:

well my interest for these obscure nations only really comes in the form of when im gambling, i seem to make a good profit which easily covers a part time job (being a uni student) so my first thoughts was making a betting blog.

i think i'll end up creating a pretty versatile page. could have a few sub headings along the lines of; players to watch out for, general european articles, match reports and when the european leagues kick off again in august, a betting section perhaps.

ill certainly post in TSR as much as i can (if users want to read what i put ) in a hope of advertising / attracting the blog some attention.

just need to think of a name for the whole thing... :colondollar:
the executioner's bong is an everton-only tactical blog, it's really good. uses chalkboards off the guardian and screen grabs from MOTD.

if you did something like that it's a good model to follow

You should read 30 yard pass they look at history and infrastructure behind football clubs and the author is open to suggestions as I've asked for something to be written and the author. The website you need to type is gerrardeh.wixsite.com/30yardpass. If you have any mates who like footy you should recommend I certainly have it's great.

Ironic that the OP was bored.
I think a decent idea for a blog about football right now would be about what you’re doing in its absence and whether you’re missing it as much as you thought you would and whether you will now look it at differently when it returns. Pretty obvious though.
I’ve been surprised just how little I’ve missed it .
Shocked even .
I thought Saturdays in particular would be really bad especially as I’m no longer going out to bars and clubs.
And the first one was bad .
But then I just reverted to reading books and watching old movies all day and one day just seems the same as the others.
Which tells me it was just a habit more than anything else .
Which makes you wonder what else you do thats just habit .🐦
