Giving up smoking for New Year

NEW YEAR - NEW 'YOU'!!

Seeing as an all-out ban on smoking in public places is highly likely, and the fact than smoking makes one a 'social leper' apart from all the other reasons not to smoke - it is now a very good time to grasp the mettle and give up the deadly and addictive drug.

In order to help our friends on this forum I am posting a link to the BBC health website with tips on freeing oneself from the addiction.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/conditions/addictions/treatmentaddiction_toptips.shtml

Do any former addicts have any good suggestions they can share of how it worked for them?

My best three were going to bed early and sleeping through the first few days, avoiding pubs like the plague until I got control and putting a 'fake' fag in my mouth when I needed something to do with my hands to cope with the loss of holding a cigarette.

I'm going to go against the tide and be smoking and drinking even more this year. I really want to see if I can get alcoholic status.
