Split Lip...

For like the last 5 or so years i've had like a permanently split lip. It just keeps splitting and it's really starting to do my head in! I use lip creams to heal them but then they just go again..so i leave them to heal naturally and they do and still split again! Why does it keep happening?!
When i was at the family planning clinic a while ago the doctor there asked me out of nowhere if i'd ever seen anyone about it.
I thought i'd be a bit pointless going to the doctor for it tho?

Maybe you should ask a doctor about it? At least they would know whether there is anything that would help heal it. And if you've had it for 5 years i'm surprised you haven't become so frustrated with it by now that you would go and see a doctor lol! Actually you could just ask a pharmasist maybe they would suggest something?

haha well i have...its just i always seem to be at the doctor and so there's a lot of stuff that i do need to go about but it all seems little niggly stuff that seem a waste of time/make me look like a hypochondriac! I'll go when i get back to uni!

My lips are not in good condition but it's because I keep on picking them. I should stop but it's kinda addictive... and it keeps on bleeding, healing and scabbing, then I peel them off again... vicious cycle. Ugh.

mine keep splitting but i'm in a terrible situation because i play the saxophone...very painful practicing/performing with a split lip. I've found that Lucas' Papaw Ointment is the ****, it completely. heals my lips within 3 days and they stay fixed for a long while .
Blistex is good, as someone has already said. My lips are always a bit manky at this time of year, but it does help quite a lot. And also vaseline, which tends to be a bit greasy, but quite soothing.
I have exactly the same split lip problem right now.

I cant remember exactly how it happened... but I certainly cant remember a big bloke punching my pretty little face in down a dark alley late at night.

I also have the same problem with it not healing - and Lypsyl etc doesn't seem to work.

I think the reason why the lip does not heal very readily (or at all lol) is due to the fact that we are in winter and bodily complaints are always slower at healing at this time of year.
For example the cold air and wind cant do much good.
(I hope I dont have to wait til May for it to heal lol  )

I find that it is actually better to keep your lip moist - as if you keep it bone dry (as I initially did on the strict advice from my mother) it just cracks a lot more.

This Blistex stuff sounds worth its weight in gold so I may give it a go

yeah winter will make it worse but mines like it all year through!!

it's also difficult because it's your mouth and everytime you try to smile or eat it splits again!!
