If you're willing to put in the work I don't imagine you'll have too much of a problem-I have a friend who did Latin for AS with no GCSE but I think initially there will be a slightly more intense workload as you "catch up" but it won't be unmanagable at all

Latin is supposed to be one of the languages you can do without a GCSE in it. I think this is because hardly anyone takes it.

Latin is doable without GCSE im sure.. Personally I don't find AS Level a huge step up from GCSE... its a gd bit harder bt many elements remain the same.. if you work hard it should be manageable.. you see at gcse you can get away with very shaky grammar knowledge, and even those who did GCSE need to recover basic grammar (or was that just me?:s). So, its not all that hard to catch up with ppl who did GCSE.

books 4a and b go to about AS i believe ... AS latin isnt all that hard but A2 can be a challenge
Don't even try AS Level Latin without GCSE... no, seriousy, don't!

What about doing the GCSE during your AS Level course?

There is way too much to learn at AS without GCSE, people I know doing it find it very hard at AS, and they were the ones with A* at GCSE level!

AS Latin isn't much harder than GCSE.
A2 is a lot harder than AS.

Short of getting a crash course on GCSE Latin, don't try it. It'd have to be very intensive as well - there's a lot to go through.

do you think i can get to the appropriate language level over the summer holidays to take it for AS level?
did your friend study to a gcse level before taking the AS?

Whow, massive bump o.O
But I think if you were to work at it properly over the summer holidays you could probably manage it. It will be a big step up, but not impossible.

do you think it will be a longshot?
i need my teachers to believe in me to let me put it down as an option...
languages are my strong point at school so hopefully the grammar wouldn't be too challenging

which text books would you recommend?
