if you do a search there are quite a few messages on here from us physio lot, but because I'm feeling nice I'll write stuff agin
The practicals are between you and whoever else nis in your year - at Georges we do pracs usually in groups of 20 spread throughout the day and during that time you'll work in pairs..............it is challenging both theoretically and physically.............I was knackered after my first term - have lectures 9-5 is a killer.................I'm not gonna lie! At Georges we are expected to do 1 hour of personal work for every hjour of lecture time but this can vary depending on the topic and how well you get it the first tme round! IThe course involves theory and pracicals........you do, anatomy, physiology etc etc

there is alot of work and it ishard to juggle it, but if you really want to do it then you'll be finding it interesting so it won't be too bad!

It's a challenging course but well worth it in my opinion. What exactly the hours of study and practicals are like varies between unis but generally it's a 9-5 course. At Keele you usually get 2 afternoons off a week, this time is supposed to be for independent learning but usually we only use it for that when its close to exam time!

Practicals are fun, lectures bore me but in practicals you get to put things into practice which helps it make more sense. We generally work in pairs or small groups in these sessions.

And finally it is interesting and I genuinely enjoy doing the reading I have to simply because I do have the interest in the subject area and want to be a physio more than anything else!

I don't know about anywhere else but a large portion of the theory is practical based at Georges............practicals involve learning how to examine and assess patients as well as teaching you how to give lots of different treatments, there's pracs in gait and posture analysis, teaching to walk with walking aids etc/..........loads of stuff.................oh and the basic anatomy pracs where you locate and palpate areas of the body on people in your group. Be prepared to strip......as you have to get down to bra and shorts and times

nope.....everywhere will expect it..........the uni's view is "how do you expect to palpate the muscles of the shoulder if you can't see them through a t-shirt" which i think is a perfectly valid point........ Georges started us early - our first physio specific prac before xmas and were expected to go down to bra/sports bra.....loads of us had vest tops on, but they had to come off too...........you'll get more than used to it by the end. I think the reason they also do it is because as a physio you might have to get your aptient to stand there in their bra.......so if you know what its like you'll be more sympathetic towwards your patient...........everyone has hang ups about their body but after a while you just get used to stripping down!

ye i can totally see where your comming from, in terms of putting ourselves in the patients shoes (or bra's and pants.LOL)
i'm very conscience about my body, i'm sure others would be too. So i wouldnt be the only one?
getting thrown in at the deep end i think will do the trick for me, fingers crossed. LOL

Georges made us sign a disclaimer at the beginning of the year to say we'd join in with pracs........of course you are allowed to decline without having to give a reason but its in your best interest to participate if you can....

trust me......EVERYONE has issues with their body and doesn't really like doing it but after a while you'll get used to it! You definitely won't be the only one........!

believe me after a few hours in your bras and pants/shorts, you forget about what your body looks like! everyone's in the same boat anyway so nobody really takes any notice!

It was a bit odd for the first 2 sessions but you get used to seeing each other semi-naked pretty quickly!!

yup - just one hint though - just make sure you're wearing matching undies on practical days  hehe

Our first ever practical session was one on surface marking where the lungs are-I think just so we all have to strip off and get used to it more than anything.

Most people were a bit daunted by it at first but everyone is in the same position really and now all of us have no issues with stripping off.
