Yeah I was so tempted to apply to New, it has Robin Lane Fox and is really pretty. My tutor told me St John's had better teaching, resources and funds though, so in the end my brain won over my heart.

Hopefully I'll make some friends there.

I don't reckon it would've been possible either... We don't techincally offer CAAH, though we do have one person every year who does it... Actually, this refutes what I said earlier, but it is true. No CAAH-ist has applied to New College. They've all applied Open and Robin Lane Fox has selected them, though he says that the girl on our year will be the last... she's an american and he adores her, but would prefer to just stick to Classicists and AMHers and have more personal research time, rather than having another subject to deal with as well.

wow....thanks bigjcoool for that detailed analysis! I don't know about some people, but i really don't need persuading. New is quite clearly an amazing college. Friendly and lively and absolutely stunning. I had a tough time choosing which college to apply to but I'm sooo happy now that I chose New. when i was up there for interviews I just fell in love with the place! Bloody good thing I got in or I would have been skulking outside for 3 years...I didn't want to leave! :p:

Really? I have a leaflet on CAAH that was given to me at Oxford, and it says you can apply to twenty colleges for the course, and lists New as one of them.

But my goodness it would be such a dream come true to have Robin Lane Fox as a tutor! Even though I think he paints a far nicer picture of Alexander The Great than was actaully true.....still, who am I to talk!!

Don't know whether you can get hold of the New College one on the internet. If you find it, let me know!

i'm sure hertford's nearer the turf than new is...

I'm also at New, and agree with everything bigjcool says about New. Its a fantastic place

While some people might think its a bit on the large side, I find that the large student number just means that theres always new people to meet, and the atmosphere is never claustrophobic.

The only downside is that 1st years don't have access to kitchens, though food is served in hall every night... its usually edible, sometimes really quite nice, but occasionally nasty.

The location is fantastic, nice and central, so pretty much everythings less than 10 minutes walk away.

Plus we have a squeaking mound.

What everyone so far has forgotten, and which i think ameliorates New amazingly, is THE TURF!

The best pub ever? Well, maybe not, but it's awesome and right on our doorstep. It's the home turf for us. Surely some kudos for this?

EXACTLY!! I mentioned this is another thread actually.. great minds and all that.
