sitting on your legs

im talking about sitting on your legs, like when your on a chair and you sit with your legs tucked under you. anyway... i always sit like that, and if i try to sit normally like with my legs down it feels terribly uncomfortable. and my friend always says to me that its gonna cause damage in the future, maybe coz it doesnt let blood flow to your legs properly or something, i duno, so i was wondering is this true? will it cause something serious in the future?
thing is, it makes my legs ache and hurt when i sit like this but bcoz iv been doing it for so long, its feels horrid to sit normaly with them down and i cant get comfortable, its so annoying. argh.
thoughts please?

I always think about this. When i sit at my desk i always sit on my legs/ scrunched up kind of thing. I hope there is no future damage caused by doing this, otherwise i'm buggered.

it probably isnt good for your blood flow and circulation but its very unlikely to cause anything serious in future.
I always sit like this, so if it's causes any leg troble in the future, quite a few of us are going to be affected.

I don't think it would cause any problems...

I usually sit on my legs in some awkward position which will be comfortable for a while, then I'll change to the usual sitting position with my legs free in front of me.

Though I reckon my knee pain in my leg is due to this.

Heh. I'm sitting like that now! Actually, just before my legs hurt because I had them squashed so long. And to answer the question, yes, I think it does cause gradual damage; I read it in Weekend. Crossing your legs does exactly the same thing though, because it crushes both legs.

My sister used to sit like that, and the doctors said it contributed to her scoliosis

I'm sitting like that right now. My granny used to tell me off when I was younger saying I will end up with deep ugly veins all over my legs..

I did it for quite a while, and then spent aaaaages finding it horribly painful to walk. Doc said as a result of me sitting like that, the inside of my knees had stopped being smooth, and become a bit like sandpaper, which is why it hurt ohsomuch when walking.

Adjusted my sitting position, and now i'm fine.
i just cant sit on my legs too uncomfortable but maybe because i have really long legs i dunno..

Even in class I sit like that... on stools. Or more like:

Sorry about the strange image it's the only one I could find that "pose".

People wonder if it's uncomfy for me but it's not, I guess I'm just a little flexible.

Some times in classes I've sat on one of my legs, with the other trailing down to the floor. I dare not sit on both legs in class as I fear will think I'm more strange than they do already.
i guess i can imagine what sitting on my legs is like i often fall asleep on my arm wake up in the morning and my arm is serious squished up lol

I think this is true because you're crushing your legs, so the blood flow is restricted (ie arteries and veins are restricted). Normally there isn't much blood pressure in your veins but crushing them will cause the pressure in them to increase and your veins have to adapt to it. So the veins need to have an extra layer of muscle to cope.
But thats just what I thought up so don't quote me on it.
