Dry Scalp

Hey

I've been having a problem with a dry scalp recently, not all over, just in 2 little patches at the front of scalp. You can't really see them but I know they're there so it annoys me lol I always use head and shoulders for dry scalp but it doens't really have much affect..............I've also used T-Gel by neutrogena which works well until I stop using it. I would just use it all the time but a) its quite pricey (6 quid in superdrugs for an average size bottle) and b) i don't like the way it makes my hair feel......make its feel very dry and clumpy so need to use a tonne of conditioner every time I use it..... anyone have any suggestions as to other things I can try.....? Rep for good ideas!

when i was a kid i used to have problems with getting a dry scalp and used to try head and shoulders cuz its cheap but never found it worked, but then i realised that it was probably because i wasnt using it enough or washing it out properly after. so after i used it frequently enough and washed it all out properly it all went and has been fine ever since. head and shoulders works as long as you use it properly. if it is bad then your doctor can prescribe a special shampoo to treat it with.
Have you tried Nizoral?

hmmmm If its only little patches have you tried something called Tar Pomade? you just rub it into the patches and allow it to treat it and it doesn't leave your hair greasy and you can wash it with normal shampoo. Its just like a conditioner for your hair and to my knowledge it doesn't have any side effects. I use it but I get it on prescription but i'm sure it ain't that pricey and they give you quite a big tub of it and it would last ages all you do is rub it in and usually within a week the dryness of the scalp has gone  - I'll do a bit more of a seach for you to see if you can get it in chemists  xoxo

this works very well (but again is a little bit pricey, but its worth it because you only need a very small amount and a little bottle lasts for ages) and i've found that everything clears within a couple of weeks
Or have you tried rubbing some Olive oil into the patches? It apparently is good for helping to hydrate the scalp  xoxo

you want to try and get a product with a coal tar extract in. sounds gross but it works, possibly need to go to your doc and they can prescribe you something, so if youre a student(and under 18) youll get it for free.

Apparently if the water you wash your hair with is too hot, it dries out your scalp. So maybe you could try just using warm water instead

I've tried that myself personally......doesn't work.......I've even taken Ice cold showers for my scalp and body and didn't work so it's a bit of a wives tale in my experience :frown: xoxo

unfortunately I'm not under 18 *sob* but I am a student. I have an HC1 form thing but they wouldn't give me free prescriptions which is a pain in the arse coz I'd just go to my doc!

It isn't that expensive most coal tar products arent...and it will help towards the costs...i'm gonna ask you a question ok....by any chance are you getting stressed out? if so it could have been the cause of the patches of dry scalp xoxo

Thanks for your help

anyone else have any suggestions as I'll run through them all until I find the one that works the best!
You could try hot oil massages. Either use mustard or olive oil and heat it up gently. Massage that into your scalp weekly or fortnightly and leave in for a couple of hours.

yeah i had that stuff, the neutrogena one right? i hated the smell of that, and it made my hair feel yucky too. i went back to the docks and got given an ointment stuff called cocois which contains coal tar extract, and smells a bit mank but ive found it to be really effective and easy to use, where other things havent been.
