2005 55 Vauxhall Corsa C 1.2 Twinport Sxi Clutch Replacement

Hi all,

My 2005 Vauxhall Corsa C 1.2 has just crept over 80,300 mls and I have been getting symptoms of a failing clutch e.g. :

When first moving off there is a slight vibration in the body

I have to let the clutch out nearly all the way out to move off

When driving along, acceleration power is severely reduced

When driving in 2nd, 3rd and 4th, I put my foot down a little further to accelerate and the rev-meter goes crazy at speeds like 30mph!

Sometimes changing down into 2nd and 1st can be a little tricky requiring two attempts. The symptoms apply to changing into reverse

I know there are problems with gear linkages with this particular generation of Corsa. Could this be part of the problem?

Could anyone give me a rough price for a clutch replacement and/or a gear linkage replacement incl. Labour?

I'm taking it in this week anyway for a couple of jobs regarding the nearside mirror and the front suspension.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
I always hear good things about Mr Clutch. You could try ringing them for a quote:

£415.99?! Isn't that a bit excessive?

Did you ring and ask? Presumably it varies significantly from car to car.

I get the Torygraph on Saturdays, and their motoring agony-aunt is always singing the praises of Mr Clutch.

Best advice I can give is to wait for someone with a good idea on what it costs to post a reply, have a search on Google for typical replacement costs, and shop around the more reputable garages in your area.

No, it was online quote for my exact model. I'm sure it is a good company but there are clutch kits on ebay for less than £100. It was a Sachs one I think. Plus their nearest two branches are half and hour away.

Your clutch has gone at 80k on a 2005 car....? Surely they should last longer than that??

400 - 500 sounds about right if you get a garage to do it, and doing it yourself is an option too. It varies vastly from car to car though, I remember doing it on my mate's Fiesta and we had to drop part of the engine out! Could be much easier on a Corsa though. Might be worth getting a Haynes manual and seeing if you think you could manage it yourself or with a few mates?

Clutch fricton plate is definately on the way out.

You need to get it changed sooner rather than later because eventually the rivits that hold the friction plate together will meet the flywheel and start putting a groove in it. When the job is eventually done the flywheel would then have to be skimmed.

You aught to find someone who can do it for you for under£400 inc parts.

If you do it yourself it'll probably take you an afternoon since you have to strip quite a lot out of a FWD car to get at the clutch. If you do decide to DIY make sure you use a decent clutch centering tool as otherwise you may well end up with clutch judder.

I have just ordered one from Ebay and today I have received a new gear linkage. I'm going to take it to the garage either tomorrow or Thursday to get them fitted. I'm also having a mirror replaced and some suspension work done.

For a clutch change, inclusive of parts and labour?

That is a brilliant price, I would bite their arm off at that

I think in 6 years the OP managed to find a new clutch, wore it out, scrapped the car and got a new one on PCP.

@IWMTom - do you want to close this or tag in one of your STs?

This thread hasn't had a reply since 2011 - please don't bump ridiculously old threads. Closing it now.
