Vitamins and Food for healthy skin

I am 17 and my natural skin is very blemished, especially below my eyes. I can't leave the house without foundation on. I don't drink excessivly and I don't smoke or take drugs or anything like that. But, I wouldn't have said i have a healthy balanced diet. Are there any vitamins or certain food types that encourage healthy skin?

Encourage, yes, but you won't notice any difference unless you have deficiencies. You can try mega-dosing Pantothenic acid, that works for some.

Other than that, visit the dermatologist.
i used to be bothered by blemishes too, until i visited my family doctor who is a GP. He prescribed some antibiotics (to control my facial oil) , some facial cleanser, and some cream. I had to go back to him every time I finish that course of medication. After some time, I got so sick of the medication and I stopped visiting him. Needless to say, the blemishes visited me instead. So I went back to him and told him how sick I was with the antibiotics and he said that we can try without antibiotics and see how it goes.

Thank God, it went fine and I am now independent of antibiotics! YiPPEee! Currently, I am only using the facial cleanser which he recommended (The brand is called SebaMed, manufactured by Germany, I think), and a daily sunscreen called SunSense manufactured by Australia. My skin is clearer than before though not porcelain clear.

Your diet is very important. Watch out for what you eat. And have enough rest and exercise, plain water, fruits and vege! and hoooo! you're right on track!
simply drink lots of water everyday i drink loads so my skin is pretty clear  and eat fruit aswell..that always helps

Most people would make the trade, diarreah or clear skin? Know what I'd choose. Diarreah is an uncommon side effect anyway.

Yeah water is the miracle worker. Drink drink drink!

he was recommending you take an overdose of pantothenic acid to clear up a little blemish which often causes diarreah and other things and generally isnt a good idea. personally i would rather not have a dripping ass purely for the sake of aesthetics.

oh and plus the fact that it would be pretty unlikely to work, so you would have diarreah for nothing.
Just so you know, it's "diarrhoea"

Does anyone know if vitamin C makes much difference? I have both bad skin and often get colds, so I've been taking 400mg of vitamin C a day in chewable tablet form, anyone know if this is a good idea? To be honest it doesn't seem to have made much difference yet, I've been doing it for about 3 weeks.

Also I've been tempted to up the dose considering you can buy even bigger tablets, but 400mg is already 666% of RDA according to the tub and I don't want to do myuself any harm. Is upping the dose safe and worth it?

How do I know if I have? I never eat any fruit and hardly eat enough vegetables so I probably have, but you make it sound like a case of if I have got a deficiency I would know about it.

well you would know because you would get symptoms of mild deficiency like weakness, lassitude etc. you wont have a deficiency. for your age your recommended about 75 - 80 mg a day. upping the dose would be fine as vit c is water soluble and is excreted regually just as long as you dont exceed about 2500mg, that would cause a few little problems. toxicity is hard.

taking it for your skin therefore probably wont do anything or much but its still a good idea to take a multivitamin instead of just vit c.
Biotin, vitamins A, C and E. Not so much A and E tho, they are oil-soluble. C is good!

yeah, they wont do anything unless the person is deficient tho
You could try Skin, Hair and Nails Formula Tablets from Holland and Barrett. They are currently now £1.99 instead of the useual £7.19 for the 60 tablet bottle so if you want you could try that and see if helps. There is also Tea Tree Oil Skin Wash from there (at £4.25 for 236 mls) which is supposed to be good for the skin because of the ingredient properties. I would also recomend drinking more water to help flush away toxins form your body. Hope that helps you  .

Just wanted to add that diarrhoea (WHY is it spelled like that?) also occurs when you eat fruit and drink water in the same short period of time. But then, all of those 3 things are good for a healthy body/skin so I suppose it's not really a problem. Just eat some dry cookies/bananas.

just make sure your hair isn't greasy and drink water (as suggested)
