side effects of the pill

i'm thinking about going on the pill, to prevent extreme worrying about being pregnant after being with anyone (i get so paranoid) but i'm worried about the side effects.....i've heard that it can make you intolerant to contact lenses?? how likely is that to happen? and can it be reversed if you stop taking them or will i not be able to wear contacts forever? also, what are your experiences with gaining weight, and other side effects?
Thanks

i'm on the pill.. i had no side effects... except maybe for the first month, i felt a bit sick in a morning... but that went off pretty quick.

intolerant to contact lenses? that sounds stupid... how can something that is meant to mess with your womb affect your eyes? oh well.. i have no clue about that - maybe it is right...

i haven't gained any weight... if anything i have lost it.. yay!

Hormones can do weird things...last year when I was on Microgynon it made me photosensitive, and whenever I went out in the sun it gave me a bad skin rash :frown:

Hmm I got put on to stop my cramps...only side effect I had was feeling rather sick when I was first starting and every so often after that.

It can go either way with your weight, I lost quite a bit when I started, but I always seem to eat more when I'm on my pill free week for some reason.

I haven't heard about the contact lense problem....but if one brand of pill gives your major side-effects, your doctor can change you to a weaker pill I think.
never heard of the contact lenses thing, and I bloody wear them! It made me gain weight, but I put it on femininely rather than like getting fat... much bigger breasts! And my period is a lot shorter now... Thinks thats about it for me!

I imagine it would be reverseable.

I've tried three different brands of pill and found one with I'm fine on, I don't get any side effects at all now (Femodene). Mycrogynon did horrible things to my skin and made me not want to have sex, ever, Cilest made me put on weight, Dianette made my cramps absolutely horrific...

They'll probably try you on Microgynon first. It made my best friends boobs become MASSIVE

I didnt have any side-effects, and none of my friends do either. I honestly think that the pill-company (?!) name a list of things that could happen, just to cover themselves.

I also wear contacts, and have absolutely no problems, and I even wear the 30-day lenses.

Erm, I got bigger boobs, shorter periods and less painful cramps. No negative side effects for me (microgynon30).

Pills affect everyone in different ways. Ask your doctor about it and read the info you get with the pills. On the packet of the pills I've been taking it says that it might make you put on weight or it might help you lose weight... it hasn't affected my weight at all.
it just made my boobs enormous. woohoo!!

Yes, it can dry out your eyes which would make wearing contact lenses uncomfortable. I only started wearing contacts AFTER I went on the pill, and my eyes do get dry ocassionally...I don't know if that's just me or because of the pill though. You can get drops and stuff which you can just put in a few times a day to make it more comfortable. I don't think it's a particularly common side effect, you'll probably still be able to wear contacts. Try it and see.

I read my microgynon leaflet, and I understand this now!

If you've ever had an intolerance to contact lenses then the Pill can make this worse. However, it shouldn't start if you haven't had problems with contact lenses before.

I didn't gain weight but lost half a stone within the first month of taking it (I've been on it for about 2 months now and am starting my 3rd packet on Saturday). I haven't really had any major side effects but my periods have changed. They are still quite regular but the flow and length of them have been all over the place. My first period lasted for 9 days and was normal flow but my second period lasted about 3 days and was very light. I'm on Cerazette by the way and am quite happy with it overall.

Ditto
everyone suffers diffently to be honest. i had to friends who were on the same brand of people and one lost weight whilst the other one put on weight. i personally have no side effects from the pill that i can think of, i might be a bit more emotional sometimes but that might just 'me' rather than the pill
